@MollyT -Great job restarting your guitar journey. Now I’m curious what your name is. Is it one that’s difficult to pronounce? I still haven’t braved open mics in my hometown. Problem with living in SoCal so close to LA is everyone can sing and play way something.
@Eccleshall -I love your microphone! Looks so cool and vintage! Good job staying in a nice pocket throughout.
@docdanguitarman -What a beautiful song. How did you get into songwriting? Do you ever just play your own songs over the office speaker or during surgery or whatever type of doctor you are? That would be hilarious. They’re good enough.
@TheCluelessLuthier -Beautiful harmonies and playing. We used to live in Florida. Got my Ph.D from FSU almost ten years ago now.
@skeletor83 -It was alright. Next time don’t pick a song that has so many licks and parts to learn or a two chorus solo that you’re still trying to get down the day of the performance
My given name is Ulrike. Which is pretty run of the mill for girls born in Germany at least when I was born. But here in the UK people struggle with pronunciation and remembering it. I get all sorts of weird attempts thrown at me, the latest sounding like the German version of cock-a-doodle-doo. Molly is much better. And there are way more cool songs written about Molly.
Thanks for the kind words David. I transcribed a number of those licks from various blues records - I think I got a couple from Clapton and there were a couple from the BLIM course, possibly changed up a bit.
I have a dog named Ulrich or Uli as we call him. Got him last year. A golden doodle puppy that’s now huge. I named him after Uli Hoeneß bc we needed a U vowel name, and it was all I could think of.
Thank you once more for your kind words, Richard!
Much more than not being happy about the struggling, I AM happy that I have been there and can very well feel what I had often seen people, also very successful people, state… that in making mistakes and acknowledging them, lies great opportunity for growth.
If possible, I would very much like to take an opportunity even as soon as possible and perform better next time.
Reminds me a bit of racing car drivers with a heavy accident who want to race again as soon as possible. Although it doesn’t feel to me like too bad of an accident.
Thank you!
So I’ll have to work on performing in another genre next time
@skeletor83 David btw top marks for your festive decorations! You went all the way with the tree, the jumper and the hat! Especially being last up that really brought back the ‘festive’ theme of the OpenMic! And is that an advents calendar on your wall?
Thanks. Well my wife always complains about not thinking about my backgrounds in old open mics when I used to have the desk facing the bed. We moved it around and put the Klimt picture up. Tree was already in our room and decorated. My biggest fear was knocking stuff over trying to move it to be in the frame. Thankfully, I only knocked off one ball and didn’t send the whole tree flying.
I adore Ella. Introduced to her by my older sister who absolutely loved her. My sister used to sing with a jazz band in The Fort pub in the Old Kent Road, back in the 60’s. Wonder if it’s still there?
Ever since I started maybe 15 years ago I was always more interested in writing. Love the process of it. My head thinks in lyrics quite often. I should ask my nursing team to pick a favorite!! Thanks
