Open vs closed

I’m learning thr c chord. Justin mentions open and closed strings. I can see X and O on the chart. What does this mean
Thanks

x means ya don’t play that string.
o means that string is played as an open string.
The remaining strings will be fretted tones and will have a dot on the string at the proper fret to play that tone at. Sometimes that dot will have a number in it. That’d be the finger you use to fret that tone. 1 would be index finger, 2 would be middle finger, 3 would be ring finger, 4 would be pinky.

A C chords will have an x over the low E string. The o would be over the high E and G string. Sometimes an open string will have nothing above it, but the x will generally appear so ya know not to play that string.

Have fun in your adventure.
