I’ve been working hard on this one and I still haven’t quite got it. I recently rescued a dog from the shelter, who was a very scared, traumatised girl. When I played the guitar and sang - believe it or not - she would lie peacefully right next to me and seem soothed. This was one of the songs I was teaching myself at the time. After only nine weeks, just as she was coming out of her shell, she got an aggressive cancer and we lost her. Heartbroken. So here’s me singing and playing it. For Crumpet. Hope you enjoy.
Hi Claudia, this sounds delightful…seems very tricky to me and I can believe it has required hard work. You need to be proud both of this and for having brought some real sweetness in that poor creature life.
Sounding good Claudia. Sometimes music is the antidote for sad times. We lost our GSD a nearly 2 yrs back and she spent many days just laying down with me during practice sessions and even at our open mics. These muts bring us so much and rip our hearts out when they pass. So sorry for your loss. That was a beautiful song and well played.
RIP Crumpet your spirit lives on.
Lovely Claudia. Very well played, and very heartfelt.
And bless you for taking in a rescue dog. You gave that little girl 9 weeks of tenderness and love that she would have never had otherwise.
Cheers, Shane
Claudia
Well played. The variation between strumming and picking made for an interesting and enjoyable accompaniment. Do you work out the guitar part yourself or do you get TABS from somewhere? I saw your performance of the Bookends Theme and you played a good accompaniment on that too.
Sorry to hear such sad news about Crumpet.
Brian
Awww. Crumpet was so lucky that her final weeks could be spent with with such a loving person in the presence of nice guitar playing. What a lucky old sweet puppy.
We are dog lovers in our family as well, we always rescue them too. My audience is consistant of more canines than humans as well
Thanks so much Silvia for your kind comments on the song and my lovely dog.
A lovely rendition, Claudia, of this song. I think the original has a bass line with a Sexy Sadie vibe and I could “hear” it while I listened to your cover.
So sad to hear of Crumpet.
Sorry to hear about your GSD. We’ve lost three dogs in the last three years and each one was a heartbreak, whether they’d been with us for 12 years or just 9 weeks. Thanks for your nice comment about the song.
Thanks Shane. Appreciate your comment on the song and kind words.
Thanks Brian. I generally just hunt about on You Tube for a guitar cover of a song I like and then adapt it. This one was a guitar solo so I took the bits I liked and simplified the rest for accompanying myself. Bookends Theme? Do you mean Song for the Asking?
Thank you. Dogs are tolerant of our less stellar performances I think x
You’re right, there is a Sexy Sadie bass vibe. Hadn’t noticed that before. Thanks for your sympathy and the encouragement.
That is awesome ,I am sure your little angel loved it
That was beautiful, Claudia.
Played and sung with all your heart. Looks definitely not as an easy tune to get under your fingers, there are quite some runs in the picking and you made it look effortless.
So sorry to hear about your loss. It is always heartwrenching to lose our furry friends, no matter how long they have been parts of our lives. The paw prints they leave in our heart will remain…
I am so sorry for your loss, Claudia. I am sure Crumpet enjoyed your song, it was beautiful.
Some great fingerstyle there Claudia and I liked the contrast with the strum pattern too. All that plus a really good vocal added up to a super version of the song. Well done.
Claudia
Yes, ‘Song for the Asking’: another great performance.
Brian
This is a great song and you have really brought it to life with some superb musicianship. The fingerstyle is excellent, I love your little runs and fills in between the chords, that is the stuff that really sets performances apart. I didn’t know the song at all, so thanks for introducing it to me.
Thanks very much Michael
