Paint On A Page

A new song, a tale of (sort of) unrequited love. I’m really happy with this one.

Clever and well written lyrics David:clap: I enjoyed the musical construction as well l, it fitted well, and thinking about it know it reminded me of some of the earlier Moody Blues songs, I hope you do not take that the wrong way, the first album I purchased was ‘On The Threshold Of A Dream’ a true classic and a favourite of mine, give it a listen. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Thank you. Being compared to the Moody Blues is hardly an insult. :slightly_smiling_face: I love quite a few of their songs.

 Very well done sir.

Thank you for that!

Good stuff, David :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
Even more impressive, as it’s an original.
Did you play/program the instruments by yourself, or employ an algorithm?
I didn’t hear the Moody Blues (apart from maybe the slow section), but did detect flavours of Steely Dan sprinkled throughout

Can’t listen to your song David as I don’t have a Soundcloud account. Is there any other way to listen to it?

I don’t have an account either but just kept clicking past the pages asking me to sign in and eventually allowed me to listen presumably as a guest.

Nice. Reminded me a bit of some Doors songs, especially the intro. Thanks for posting.

Thanks all for listening and providing feedback.

@brianlarsen – it’s all me. The guitars and vocals are all my playing/singing, and the rest is VST instruments. The drum track is mostly straight from the EZDrummer3 library, but there are sections I tweaked or programmed outright (this was my first project with EZD3 and I really like it). This was written when I took a songwriting class at a local community college and a couple of other folks have mentioned a Steely Dan resonance, which I was kind of aiming for.

@sairfingers – I honestly didn’t realize that Soundcloud would prompt you to login or create an account. I just now opened the link in an incognito window and was able to just click the close button in the upper right corner for the login prompt and the track started playing. So maybe give it another try?

@Prof_Thunder – I don’t know any of The Doors music beyond the big hits, so that’s an interesting comparison for me.

Well done @dlemire60! Well arranged.

Hi David,

It’s not my style of music, but it’s well put together. Production is crystal clear.
I like the bridge - very nice.
Always admire the songwriters - not as easy as some make it appear.
Not sure about the Doors comparison - maybe some Soft Parade stuff? I prefer their darker side. First album is awesome.

Thanks for the listen and the comments. I’m not familiar with Soft Parade. There are a couple of deliberate Steely Dan touches in there. I guess overall it’s Yacht Rock? (but doesn’t have the Doobie Bounce).

I’m not a prolific songwriter by any means but I’m really happy with this one.

I’d be very very happy with this too.

Great song, great lyrics, great singing, incredible production and orchestration.

No punches pulled. Top of the class for you David.

High praise indeed. Thanks.
