Parisienne Walkways and I'll Fly Away

Brilliant , both of those Dave. I’m just learning PW at the moment. If it turns out anything like yours has. I’ll be well pleased. You made a great job of them both. Your 8 years here with Justin, have definitely not been wasted. Not just the songs and playing. But your production skills are top drawer too. You have obviously put in the practice and hard work. Well done Sir. :+1:

Hi Dave,

Nailed PW.
Great job of a more than great song.
That fast run I looked at my fingers and they looked back and said - “don’t even think about it.”

Didn’t know the second song - I was expecting Lenny Kravitz! Nice job though.

I’ve been AWOL for a while, Old Man, and promised myself I would not try to ‘catch up’, but when I see the ‘Father of the House’ released a double A-sided single, I caved in
… and glad that I did!
The first, a fitting tribute to two fine Irish musicians: Gary & Phil, RIP, and you Sir, do them both justice
The second, although I know it well, I thought I knew it from The Carter Family. Searching the web, it is probably Johnny Cash’s and June Carter’s version I’m familiar with. Close, but no cigar

a reminder of ‘what could have been’, had I not been such a butterfly :sob:

a reminder that perhaps I chose wisely after all!
Happy trails!

Fantastic, Dave! I was especially impressed with that lead work on PW. Congratulations!

@DavidP Glad to hear things are well with you, David. I know what you mean about laying off for a while. I thought you sound really good in that last OM that I heard.
The tightness and errors are things like not playing to a grid and not doing post edits to tighten things up. One that I thought someone would mention was at the beginning of the second verse there’s a little into that the rhythm gtr plays. When I got to it I had a brain freeze just for a second, so I didn’t play it and just left it with the vocal. In the outro I misplayed one of the licks. But if things like those don’t sound really, really bad, I just leave them in. Your ear is fine, it’s just things that I know are there. I appreciate your comments.

@mscfsb Hi, Mel. Thank you for the kind words. The production skills are really pretty limited compared to others, but I try to keep it really simple, and to my ears it sounds more natural that way. Plus I’m too lazy to get into all the mastering and such.
PW was one of the hardest songs I’ve done, I think mainly because of the tempo is pretty slow and trying to get the right vibe for me was hard, not to mention just the rhythm and memorizing all the tracks.
Hope your take on PW is coming along well, and I look forward to hearing it.

@Digger72 Hey, Digger, good to hear from you, and thanks for the feedback. As far as “don’t even think about it”, I think you and Katja could do a super version of this and knock it out of the park. I’ll be waiting.

@brianlarsen Good to hear from you , Brian. I noticed your absence.
Where in the world do you get “Father of the House”? Glad you thought I did justice to PW and Gary and Phil. It was a tough one for sure.
On the second, nope, no Carter Family or Johnny and June, or anyone’s cover, just oldhead49 checking things out for the big day.
I guess, since it didn’t earn a cigar, we won’t be calling on you to perform it :disappointed_relieved:
I appreciate you stopping by, Brian, and hope things are looking up for you.

@think2100 Thanks, Jay, for the listen and feedback. Much appreciated.

Hey Dave,
I took both of these in and really liked them both. At first I was not sure what one I liked best as they are so different. But I think in the end I like “Fly Away” best. It is up tempo and IMHO, onto a great subject line. The way things are going, flying away might be good idea if things implode.

Great play, vox and producing here. So the complete package was brought out on these 2. I can’t wait till you upgrade your DAW and are able to really light it up! All the best on that as far as putting all together!

Take good care and be well,
LB

Dave the only feedback I can give is that they both have been most enjoyable listenings…thanks for sharing them!

Glad you stopped by LBro, and thanks for the feedback.
Upgrade my DAW?? Do you mean computer?? You know this 15 year old machine is still running - barely at times. Some say I’m cheap. I prefer frugal, keeping it simple, being a good steward of resources. :joy: But I’ll think about it.

Hi, Silvia. I appreciate your comments, and glad you enjoyed. They were fun to put together.

I was very curious to hear your Parisienne Walkways and I was not disappointed!

Great productions and performances, both songs.
Great use of your low register timbre as well.

@LievenDV Lieven, Thanks for stopping in and for the feedback. Coming from one of our esteemed instructors it means a lot.
