Awesome! I think you stuck it!
Well done.

Great performance, there! In addition to your solo, I liked that short thing you guys did at 00:39! Don’t know what to call it, unless I can call it a short transition, but it caught my attention.

Hey Lieven,
I woke up to this one and your play. Pity the lead solo volume level was so low. I would have loved to hear it up in the mix. But I understand the live issues involved in trying to mix what was likely done on stage?

I liked the whole band and the song. All sounded pretty tight and good together, to me. Good job and nice to hear what you have been up to of late!

SIDE NOTE

It would seem this is in the wrong catagory. Should it not be moved to the Collaborations-Bands-Projects category?

All the best to you mate and the crew!

Fantastic milestone Lieven and you guys rocked it up there. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Congrats, Lieven!
What a rush. I played my first solo in front of an audience, March 9. Not nearly as fast and complex as yours, but a solo none the less. It was the second solo in a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revivals cover of I heard it through the Grapevine.
Glad you got started soloing at a relatively young age. Mine came just a few days after my 71st birthday.
Rock On! :guitar: :guitar:

Thanks for the kind words all of you! <3

I’ll be a few miles South west of Milan in July, not for music but perhaps closer by

Yes, absolutely love that, in between songs I tell about our drummer being a time traveller and our intro is a rather known Flemish person telling how we battle bad coffee and space pirates. Bands often take themselves so seriously, especially in the heavier genres. We embrace being serious about music but bringing fun as entertainment!

I learn something new every time. this recording was super useful as it shows I’m tied to the mic and my guitar and I need to find new, extra ways to move and express on the podium. Other songs leave more room for that.

Great! It took s osme time to try and find something that is “us” and not copying others. With this team, there is little constraint and a lot of opportunity.

kinda; it really removed a inhibition in a way. I now feel like there is at least a bit of that in me, while I was in denial

Good example of us being whacky… “what if we broke the hijack the whole thing a blues…that’s a pirate thing to do!”

yes my friend!
always water on stage and no alcohol before the show for me either
Our current drummer did great; it showed how important the drummer is for the confidence you radiate on stage.

yeah certainly crossed our mind to check the “warhammer40k’ish” vibe for the artwork etc but once again…a tad less “serious”

We’re working on a “studio” version

MY stage persona is a high energy, overenthousiastic, extra Italian and somewhat naughty platoon leader version of myself

Yes! I’m very critical that a song isn’t the same strum all the way though but that there is conrast with some dynamics. I always find this “spacing” in synch with all insturments a classic but powerful trick. I always try to inspire our lead guitarist to leave out some notes and create emphasis with some less obvious spacing of notes. It creates some “air” and I always think of BB King talking about the “notes you don’t play”… Good call!

filming with a cell phone and particular position in the room often has a lot of impact on the sound. Creating an optimal live recording is probably an art

Whoop! we’re in the same boat, no matter age, experience or setting! <3

Yes, makes sense. I think the only way to control the “mix” is to have brought up the solo at the source, onstage. The pedal output is probably where to attack this one? Indeed, if one is to capture a live “optimal recording”, ideally all on stage feeds should be direct or mic sources. They should then feed back to the mix console. From there you just take at least a stereo feed off the mix console. It would be easier to probably capture what you want in a practice session and it might take time to make the recording optimal…

BTW - Thanks for moving the OP and thread to a proper spot!

actually, there is a recorder plugin I could use on my programmable multieffect…
But that would have been just my sound.

Indeed, I could have asked the soundguy for a recording from his desk; that would have been better and more complete. Adding a mic to capture the room sound to hear the audience and the effect that the room has, could make a nice blend. Sound from the desk alone is quite sterile.

That’s some nice playing, Lieven!!

Well done Lieven! I would never guess that was your first solo on stage, you looked very comfortable.

confession, I kinda like being on stage…a lot
but in my mind it was “ok, this is it this is it”

Lieven, Point Fifty is on point for sure, and congrats on your first public solo! Like, LBro, I’d like to hear the solo cut through more, but I also understand the limitations you were working with. I hope you post the studio version of the solo when you get it.
I was kind of surprised that this was your first public solo. I’ve seen and heard your posts (you and guitar) over the years here on the forum, so to hear this was your first kind of boggled my mind, knowing how well you play. Anyhow, good on you for this first.
My only nit is the expletives, but that’s a conversation for another day.
