Personal milestone, first public guitar solo

Although I’ve been playing a bit of “guitar conversation” in a certain song of our band Point Fifty, I never did a full blown solo live.

In our latest song “Space Pirates” we bring a kind of “Ramones/punk” vibe.
To break it, a 12 bar blues drops in and I start noodling over it. Soon enough the 12 bar goes to the original tempo and chord structure again and I continue with tapping, tremolo picking and some fast licks, (switching between pick/ no-pick mid solo)

It was only 2 minutes before the gig I realized…“Oh this is the first time I’ll do a solo”.
I didn’t botch it! Whoop! I’m in no sense a “lead guitarist” so it’s a considerable victory to me :stuck_out_tongue: (and that’s why the lead guitarist clapped :p)

solo is at about 1:15; difficult to hear (cellphone audio) but you’ll get the idea.

The song itself ties me to the mic a bit because of the constant lyrics so I still need to figure out how to integrate an “act”.
I already put on a pirate hat for the song though :stuck_out_tongue:

Sounds good to me :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: One thing is clear: you guys are enjoying playing on stage for some audience. And it’s something I envy you, playing in a band and giving live performances, a thing of the past for me.

Great performance, Lieven. You made me tapping feet and enjoy that playing. This is really great example that things you are teaching us in Clubs really work. :slight_smile: (never doubted about that)

Speed is something i’m lacking right now,but i’m doing excersises to get faster.
Same for the tremolo picking.
