I went wireless!
And so far, 10 minutes in, it’s pretty good.
After ordering Headrush MX5 at the end of August I thought that if I’m buying stuff anyway, I gotta get myself a wireless system. Because, let’s be honest, cables aren’t very cool. So I ordered Spark Link from Positive Grid as it’s cheaper than some other competitors while being the easiest to use and the most good looking, in my opinion.
And today I received it, opened a little and really well made box, plugged them in, turned on and just started playing. There’s literally nothing more to it and it couldn’t be easier.
When playing there’s nothing special to it, it functions exactly like a cable with zero latency, immediate response and all of that stuff. Just without a cable. Didn’t have a chance to test battery life yet, though, but it’s stated to be up to 6 hours.
And that’s it. Won’t revolutionize anything, won’t make me a better player, but definitely will make playing even more convenient.
Nice
I have wireless thingies from Xvive, they do the same job. Perfect for playing at home, no messy cables, nothing to trip over etc. If I want to silence my guitar for a minute or two, I just flick the switch on the one that’s in my guitar and it immediately reconnects when I’m ready to play again. Maybe if I was playing in a band I might have to look at a fancier system, but I’m not likely to be any time soon (or maybe ever) so I’m also very happy with wireless
I have a really cheap ones. I have to change channels every half an hour or so…
Thankfully mine don’t do this (can’t imagine the PG ones do either). That seems more hassle than a cable!
I have some cheap No-name “Swiff Audio?” ones. They work fine. Plug and play for £40, and I’ve had fewer problems with it than I have with the Line 6 G10.
Cheers,
Keith
I have the Westshell G7 and the BrianFay BF1.
The Westshell G7 changes the frequency response compared to a 10-foot cable - less high frequency response.
The BrianFayBF1 is pretty much the same as a 10-foot cable.
Both have a battery life at least 6 hours. I think the G7 was around $35-$40 USD. I think the BF1 was under $50 USD on holiday sale.
The BF1 fits in my top-entry socket - like a strat. The G7 barely does, and marrs the wood in the process. The G7 has a flexible hinge that makes it favorible for side sockets because it doesn’t look like it will be broken off easily.
Hmm. I’ve had a G10 for years with zero problems.
Hi Artem ,
HappyFinallyGetRidofthatAnnoyingCable Day …
I remember it well, that day changed my life …
Greetings and have fun with it
Looks super cool. Didn’t know positive grid had a wireless system. I had a BOSS wireless system that sucked big time, dropouts all the time. Hopefully this one is dropout free!
I had nothing but trouble with my G10T for my THR10ii when I was in SIngapore. In 3 different apartments I got either a lot of interference, or dropouts even when I was quite close to the amp.
I also had intermittent charging issues with it and, eventually, it died and I had to buy a new one. Apparently battery issues with the G10Ts are not uncommon and they had to recall a batch with dodgy batteries (mine was purchased after that when they were supposed to have sorted out the issues).
When I bought my boss WL20 over, that had no issues at all. And my Brother-in-Law got me the Swiff Audio ones as a gift and they worked well too (and were a more comfortable fit on my Revstar when sitting down, than the WL20).
Back in the UK, I mainly use the Boss and the Swiff Audio wireless systems and they have been reliable and plug’n’play for me.
I haven’t used the G10 much as I don’t have much call to use my THR10ii at the moment. I’ve still had the odd charging issue but it’s been less prone to dropouts here, but that’s probably because I live in the sticks here where there’s relatively little interference, compared with SG where I was living in a soup of RF.
Cheers,
Keith
I have Lekato 5ghz ones and they are great!
I love being mobile on stage and wireless is such a blessing!
Once you used it, it’s hard to go back
Hope you got it right from the first time, so keep us posted with your findings after some prolongued use
Not every system works as well for everybody; be open to some testing and perhaps some details you need to take into account while you discover the pro’s and cons of your system.
I have no experiencewith yours but above all, I hope it’s flawless in reliability and interference.
My bandmates and I have been through some issues with signals so it’s a bit hit and miss. (no signal conflicts but issues with the systems themselves)
I’m on a Sennheiser system now and he recently bought a Shure system.
A couple of $100’s each so pretty expensive for a less sexy purchase like that…
BUT we found what works for us and the feeling of security and reliability is priceless I guess
Hi Artem, they’re surely looking good!
I use cheap Harley Benton AirBorne 2.4 GHz wireless adapters, and these work well, too. The only thing I find a little bit annoying is to have yet an other pair of devices that need to be charged. Maybe a personal thing.
Rock’n’Roll!
Don’t get me started…I just looked around and there are 6 yes 6 devices charging right now …
It is the time we live in now, sometimes the rechargeable things are good, but often the batteries are of poor quality or ??? stop!!..I say ,don`t get me started
Greetings
I don’t so much mind the charging but everything seems to use a different cable! I’ve been sorting through my stuff lately and have so many mystery cables that maybe I’ll never use again or perhaps I’ll need them 10 minutes after taking them to the dump!
I have recently bought sheets of stickers to label my cables which helps with all my new cables at least
I’ve seen their older model in a local store, but they’re more expensive and I don’t like the design. But it’s all not that important if you’re enjoying them.
I can’t hear any difference and it’s advertised to have none, all reviews say that as well. But I’m not sure whether I’d hear it with your G7.
And wow, the design of that BrianFay system is original, to say the least. I’ve watched one short review and there’s a connector to attach it to a strap, but I’m not playing with a strap all the time and anything without a flexible hinge is an instant now for my SG.
Was it that drastic, Rogier? Good for you then!
They launched it early this year and the look is what get me in the first place.
That can be said about anything wireless. It’s just so convenient.
You have to sacrifice something to get rid of those cables. But for me, the convenience wins all the time.
I counted and I have 7 devices that need to be charged (not counting power banks), but luckily not too often. The only thing I charge daily is my phone. Earbuds last for a few days of active use, smart band lasts for about a week, Spark Mini is now used more as a BT speaker and lasts for several days too. And my headset last for weeks while the last time I charged the keyboard was in August or even earlier. With lighting turned off it lasts for months.
And I’ll gladly charge everything when needed rather than deal with dozens of cables.
Now almost everything only has Type-C connectors, so it’s a much lesser mess than a few years ago and it’s good.
They keep saying that but there’s tons of electricals still produced with their own weird adaptors that has a round end which looks the same as 1000 other gadgets but is actually incompatible!!! Even USB-C comes with it’s problems because not all USB-C cables are compatible with all USB-C devices
Oh, that thing is awful. But most bigger brands switched to Type-C completely. And at least for basic charging I haven’t encountered any incompatible cables.
You guys have been reading my mail.
I’ve just returned from Italy and none of my adaptors fitted their funny 3 in a row pin sockets!
Sorry for the hi-jack @metramaks
