Anyone recommend something roughly equivalent to JustinGuitarā¦for piano? I know someone that wants to play. When I told them about JustinGuitar, they thought Justinās approach and structure for music learning sounded good.
I donāt play, no idea if this course is good. They currently have a sale on. Beginner course for $10 you have nothing to lose.
Pianote ā Musora
I learned piano for 3 or 4 years and I never came across anything remotely close to Justinās lessons. They are quite unique in offering such a wealth of free material across so many genres of guitar styles.
What sort of music does your friend want to learn? - āplaying pianoā covers a lot of ground.
This is a downloadable course that I found very well-presented with good resources. It is aimed at learning chord shapes and using them for basic improv.
Oops - sorry, I thought it was available to August 2026 , but it was removed last year.
When I bought my keyboard, my first goal was to learn an easy song played with just chords and simple rhythm. Found a number of beginner lessons on Youtube for the John Lennon song Imagine.
Next I wanted to learn a bit of melody, so found an easy beginners song lesson on Youtube for the song Falling Slowly.
The first song was so easy to learn compared to learning guitar.
A few years ago I got quite obsessive about turning my very rudimentary piano skills into something more. I tried four or five different online piano courses, and got some value out of all of them. However, none of them worked for me the way Justin Guitar does. I am not sure why.
Piano courses tend towards teaching music notation. I didnāt mind this, because at the time I was interested in doing my own renditions of classics like Also Sprach Zarathustra and Queen Maryās Funeral March (incidentally, I afterwards learnt that both of these had already been turned into milestone synthesiser pieces).*
Anyway, the result was the same in all cases, I spent less and less time on the courses, felt guilty about it, and eventually stopped.
EDIT:
* Also both used in soundtracks by Stanley Kubrick.
