We’re nearing the end of mixing this new Point Fifty track and we’d like to know how it is received here.
Still to do: mastering
I came up with a riff and lead guitarist Tim awesome-o-fied it
The lyrics are about how cats are the cause of entropy. Entropy is, cutting some corners here, the tendency of the Universe to expand in disorder and eventually become one giant cold and thinned out entity. Only traces of the smallest particles can be found.
You can’t escape the true nature of Nature… and it is now clear to us that cat, on all cosmic scales, are the cause. In the very end, one throw a glass of the counter and boom … a new Universe is born…
You hear me on vocals
Tim on guitar, he recorded my guitar and the bass as well =D
Drum sequenced based on our drummers rehearsal performance.
let me know what you think
(sounds like soundcloud cut the absolute first slice of the song, a few microseconds that make up the first “hit” of the song)
Overall sounds really good, Lieven, polished, well performed, and a fine example of the genre in a sense that I’d accept it as the latest from a band that has a recording contract etc.
Now that genre is not really my thing, so hard to get to much into nitty-gritties.
Sounds a bit British new wave of metal like say Iron Maiden. As such what I am missing is a guitar solo in this arrangement.
I think I’d also brighten the vocal a little to give it just a little more presence.
Only thing I didn’t enjoy was those two quiet moments with the guitar just in the left channel.
Overall you have a gem in your hands, already polished, and perhaps just a few minor tweaks and then you can release to a waiting metal audience.
Sounds terrific Lieven! Like David, I’m not a metalhead so don’t have any useful advice. I agree with him that a short guitar solo might fit nicely. For me the left channel guitar works, as it’s very brief and I’ve heard that approach used before - sort of a tension building thing I guess.
That sounds like a good song to me Lieven! I leave the constructive feedback to those who are able to provide it.
Your vocals are really impressive…have you worked on your singing with structured practice? It seems so.
That’s really nice!
Hardly any critique I could offer. Maybe I’d put a bit less reverb on the vocal, but you’re all more advanced than me, so you will know better!
Sweet Lieven. I really liked the use of the shadow vowel in the verses, It sounds killer, you even droped a tone .
I also really like the part where you do the vocalization of the whoa before the repeater and muted chugging in the chorus. Very strong and it is super powerful. Really leaves you anticipating more.
Lastly the channel mix was cool too with the final chugging iso to the right channel. That was really unexpected and sudden, it caught me of guard then just as i was processing it, suddenly back to normal for the fin. That really got my blood pumped. That all cumulated into an ending that left me saying F YES
Me again
Now as I stumbled upon my studio headphones, I gave it another listen and listened against two reference tracks. I have to say that the reverb for me through the headphones sounds great,it was just when I listened through monitors, I found the vocal a bit far away.
Now on these better headphones and against reference tracks, the reference track guitars have a bit more sparkle and your track could use a bit more bass in my opinion.
But all these things are minor , the mix is already pretty great I think.
PS. Amazing picking speed! I know I’ll never be really fast, but at some point, I’ll have to become faster than I am now, that’s for sure.
Good stuff. As already mentioned, has a nice Maiden vibe, but slightly thrashier in places.
Wondering if the bass should be a little more prominent?
Have you demoed this live yet? Think it would be received well. Get the mosh pit going - hopefully 80s/90s style rather than the lame excuse they call mosh pits these days.
Hope you’re good, mate.
