I have been reminded that Justin has lessons, from many years ago, of Auld Lang Syne.
I totally forgot.

Oh, interesting! Withold said a very very similar thing for Poland! I was never with scouts, so maybe this is sung here in Germany among scouts too?
Ok… Now I searched and found that there is a very similar german version too.

I used to play it on the recorder at school, when I was about 12 years old :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I see there’s a version with italian lyrics but I never knew them. I always confuse it with the Oh Christmas Tree melody!

(A) Yes
(B) East coast USA
(C) Mostly sing this around New Years Eve. However, with certain friends, we sing it at reunions and wakes (missing the friends who are not with us)
(D) Mostly we sing it in English, however a few friends will also sing the chorus and a verse or two in Scottish.

Dear Richard, now I was curious about this word - it seems to come from the yiddish and sabbath?
But when I researched the word, the very first thing I found is music- and blues related and I love it: https://youtu.be/U3poPmqfxNs?si=-rmU03d88TDucoep

[A] yes, but …
[B] UK now
[C] no
[D] German

This song happens to be my Mum’s favourite song, but not the English version. I learned it as “Nehmt Abschied Brueder” and it was for me never tied to a particular time in the year like it is here in the UK to the year end. For me it will always be a song to sing at the end of an outdoor trip with friends.

As Molly said, in Germany its known as a farewell song sung at the end of outdoor events.

In the JG Community this is the ear training reference song for the perfect 4th Interval

Here too! Didn’t watch this often back then, but I was always a great fan of Robin Williams! Did you check my link above? It seems like they didn’t send this episode in germany, probably because it wouldn’t translate so well.
