What is the name of the chord toward the end of Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) where you remove your 1st finger in the A5 chord (5th fret of the 6th string) and play open E on string 6 and E on string 5 at the 7th fret?

That would just be playing the octaves (E2 and E3 on the piano). But I don’t know how you would write it down on a lead sheet, or if there is an “official” name.

Here’s tip for anyone who like me is learning this song as part of his or her introduction to power chords in grade 2 …

Lookup a browser extension (for Chrome, Edge, mayber others too) called TRANSPOSE. Besides what the name implies (changing the key of a song), it allows you to change the tempo (speed) of a song in Youtube, which makes playing “Pretty Fly” approachable while you’re still learning

(I know I still have to play it at arount 75% or the original tempo in order to be able to manage the fast chord changes)

Good tip. If all you need is to slow things down, you can do that directly in youtube. (Gear icon → playback speed).

Right, forgot about that, LOL!

But in the end I stil find the “play speed” setting in YT a bit to coarse. You see, I have this routine when I’m learning a tricy song where I’ll start at some fraction of the full speed, say 70%, and then every time I complete one pass without mistakes I kick it up a percentage point or two - up to the point where I do mess it up, then I “penalize” myself by moving back a notch or two again.

YMMV, but that really works wonders for me.

Yes, that’s a good idea. I do something similar using a metronome. I find once I can play the song (or solo or whatever) at, say 70% speed, I switch to the metronome, instead of playing along with the recording. At that point, I don’t really need the backing track as a guide.

Btw, if you use youtube with a browser on a computer, you can get a finer adjustment of the playback speed (using “Custom”). However, I’m told that with the youtube app on a phone or tablet, that feature is not available.
