Got to Module 12 of Grade 2 a few months back, and been playing quite a few of the suggested songs, plus some of my favorites from Black Sabbath too – and I’m not in a hurry to move on because there’s so much to explore …
The lesson for this song is rated as Grade 3, but it is suggested in the list of songs for Module 12, and in the lesson video Justin says that he thinks “it’s the best song to test out your power chords”, given there are tons of string crossing, slides, fast changes, etc.
Well, it took me a solid two months of practice slowly bringing-up the tempo until I felt confident enough to give it a go at recording it. If I’d played it a bit slowed down I’d have had less mistakes, but I wanted to record it at full tempo as a sort of “here’s where I am” with power chords.
I enjoyed this a lot, Claudio. The tone suited the song very well and you were playing on time throughout these fast changes.
It’s so easy to notice how much time and effort you invested. I particularly liked the start of the video when your hand already began moving and in general the energy in your playing.
Mistakes? Where there any? If so then very small ones. Didn’t notice… Aaah… Now I want to skip two modules and jump directly to module 12
Approximately last year at this time, I did the same song and was given the feedback that I think applies to you as well. It is technically there. There are few mistakes mostly with slides, but they are very minor. Those two sections of small, very fast slides were excellent. What I think is missing is proper expression that goes with such song.

Hi Claudio ,
Staying in module 2 and bringing this song this way
I really enjoyed listening to it…great sound…and very nice to see how your fingers fly over the fretboard, very impressive…good job man, you know your way around power chords…keep on going.
@Boris1565 thanks for the link, that was a great open mike, plenty of awesome performances! I started with Edgar’s bit you lined (he makes it look super easy, very well done) and jus kept going. Need to watch the first bits too now.
What I think is missing is proper expression that goes with such song.
Good point, and I can feel it too. I still haven’t gotten it fully “under my fingers”, I’m sort of stiff and mechanical when playing, I guess mostly because it is still a bit beyond my current skill. But hey, not too long ago I had to slow it down to around 100 BPM in order to be able to play, so it will come out, eventually

Yup, super cool/solid performance! I also noticed that he uploaded a better version of it uploaded a better version of it, since the Open Mike video has some minor glitches at the beginning.
Hi Claudio, congratulations on that performance. That was really impressive . So many fast chord changes, slides, etc.
I love the song. It’s actually one of my favourite punk rock songs, and it’s my mobilephone ringtone for my significant other . So, I’ve heard this song many, many times in my live. And I think, you did an awesome job on it.
The time and effort you’ve put into it was absolutely worth it .
Power chords?
These two words in your title had instantly caught my attention, because I’m struggling with them myself at the moment
And if I may say, you really have passed your test, Claudio
That was awesome and I enjoyed it a lot.
Since I’m working on power chords too, I know how difficult it is with all the fast changes and slides.
Your great performance had shown that I still have a very long way to go, but I’m sure power chords are worth all this effort. They are very useful for lots of awesome songs.
So your great playing had been very motivating for me.
Thanks a lot and keep up the great work
Well done, I think so early days in your guitar journey this is really tricky song to play! Few timing issues here and there to work on, but mostly it was recognizable and easy to listen. One minor thing I picked up - when intro kicks in and you play first bit starting with B power chord on A string - the first part is one strum, but second part 2 down strums, whereas you do one again. Very minor detail but I really like this double strum to let it go
Managed to hear that song live for the first time in my life couple months ago, what an energy!
You should’ve seen my very first (unpublished) recording of when I started learning this song, over a month ago. It was painful to listen to, LOL.
It will grow on you and will become easier with time!
For me one of the appeals of power chords is that I like a lot of the old/classic heavy metal songs and bands, and there’s a ton of songs with power chords that are not too complicated - if you skip over the solos and some of the embellishments. For instance, right now I’m dedicating myself to Black Sabbath (Iron Man, Paranoid and War Pigs), and having a blast
I usually write the tabs to what I’m learning in text files - a bit of a pain to edit, but the format is “future-proof”. I also keep a printed copy of anything “non-trivial”, so I have a handy version to play along, and since the text files are on Dropbox, if I have my phone, that means I also have my tabs handy
That is so cool! Never had the chance of seeing them live, but watched a few recorded gigs and they certainly put up quite a show, even after many years on the road.
Thats very good and convenient, especially if there is out of a sudden spontaneous opportunity to play something on a trip or in front of others well thought!
As for the riff, funny thing was that before I commented here I needed to make sure what is the truth, as I was pretty sure it’s double strum first AND second time around now we are on the same page at least all the best!
