Procol Harum:Repent Walpurgis; Slow Blues in B (Kirk Fletcher)

Thanks Dave. The KB is just a dumb midi controller. The organ sounds are from the Hammond B3X VST from IK Multimedia which I run under Reaper DAW on my laptop. I’m really happy with the Hammond/Leslie emulation.

It is brillant Phil, as always! I properly enjoyed it.

Here’s a rough transcription and attempted performance of a Kirk Fletcher slow blues in B from the youtubes:

Had to re-upload it because some wazzock uploaded the video with no sound…

Loved both of those tracks! Nice tones as well, from the fat singing lead in the Procol Harum tune to a nice and appropriate blue tone in that last jam. I think those blues tones are harder than people might think, many ends up using too much gain or struggle to get the tone fat enough. This was just right!

I see Nimble Fingers Jonesy has been at it again ! Have to agree with Mr F, there are some sweet tones in abundance on this one Phil. Some very tasty digit application as well sir. Top job.

Absolutely fantastic playing and production, I enjoy listening to it every time
I see the text remarks on errors as a ‘modest’ hint that only such little things still happen to you
thanks for a piece of very good music
cheers
Withold

Thanks for the listen folks
@Kasper Appreciate the comments from someone of your level! All my tones come from the Fractal FM3. I have a short delay added which seems to fatten it up a bit without having to add too much gain to get the fatness.

@TheMadman_tobyjenner I wouldn’t say “nimble” Toby. Most good guitarists seem to have slender flexible fingers. I have stumpy sausages

@witkatz Thank you Withold! I find the recording process pretty frustrating, as I make different mistakes on every take. A lot of the videos I see on youtube are absolutely perfect, so I like to point out my mistakes for comedy value, and before someone else points them out in the comments section!

Ah the FM3. Cool! What amp models did you use?

“Brit JM45” presumably based on the JTM45. I used a couple of randomly chosen 4x12 cab models which sounded OK in headphones (I don’t have an amp, so do everything with headphones - there are always people working or sleeping here so the “real thing” is out of the question)

Great !

Hi Phil,

Procol Harum
Wicked stuff.
That organ tone is awesome.
Great guitar work.
Like the look of that drum pad. Been wanting some drums for ages - but Mrs D would kill me. Something that small i think i could sneak in…
Excellent performance and production - prefer it to the original.
It sounds like how Gary Moore would have played it.

Awesometastic.

Slow Blues.
Very nice. Clean and fat tone.
A video with no sound… I dare say someone would call it modern art and flog it for a £ million pounds - or maybe swap it for a banana taped to a wall.

Great stuff all round.

Hi Phil,
Excellent productions throughout, of professional quality all the way. What is the drum pad that you are using?

I liked all your tones, production and the whole package. I guess the only thing one could think about adding might be vox.

Keep up the good vibe and be well,
LB

Excellent work.
I did FF thru some of the piano & right to the guitar. Reminded me so much of David Gilmour-the tone & phrasing.

@BigLuc @Digger72 @LBro @AlyKat @Willsie thanks very much folks!

Well they say that silence is just as important as the notes!

It’s a Roland SPD SX-Pro. Got it a few months back. I’ve never learned drums, so what I do is chop a song into small parts - learn and record the drum parts for each bit separately then stich them together in Reaper. I’d like to learn properly at some point.

Probably for the best Allison, I did maybe 6 months of weekly piano lessons, but that was 40 years ago, so my playing isn’t great. I prefer to spend time learning guitar since that’s my favourite instrument.
