Progress on 2 songs and 1st attempt on new one

Hi there. I’m posting my first attempt at my ‘Write a song in 7 days’ as suggested by Richard.

I’m using my newly learned chords, playing up the neck - what a game changer. It’s very much a work in progress and I do mess up the bridge, but I’d like to track my progress as my playing will surely become smoother over time.

Also posting re-recordings of 2 old ones, which I feel more confident playing - hope that comes across. As ever, comments/ suggestions welcome!!

I think the sound ain’t great, as recorded on my phone. Hope the links work OK.

I enjoyed your songs: you have created three quite different melodies, giving each song its own character. My main suggestion would be to do more focussed practice: concentrate on the areas where you’re losing timing or unsure of chord sequences and repeat those short phrases slowly until correct then step up the pace, bit by bit, so you’re practicing correct versions. Another idea is to record the vocal and guitar independently of each other then practice singing over the guitar part and playing the guitar part over your vocal: this can help marry the instrumental and vocal parts. I think your songs have terrific potential and I look forward to hearing more.

Thanks for that Brian - that’s great advice and not something I’d thought of. Makes sense and I bet it’s very effective. Will defo do that!! Thanks for the listen and response.

Hi Viv,

great to see and hear the outcome of your 7-day-challenge! Hope you had as much fun as I had?

There are some lovely chord voicings in your newest original and the melody line, especially in the chorus, is really pleasant to listen to and follow.
For me as a non-native speaker of English, it’s sometime a little hard to follow the lyrics on the first few listens so in case you don’t mind, it would be kind of you to share them so we can read them, too. But this is not a must, just a request.

If you follow Brian’s good advice above, I’m sure you will have it smooth in no time and I couldn’t agree more on this:

Please keep at it, Viv! You have something really cool going (also with the other two) and I would love to hear even more! Keep on writing!

Cheers - Lisa

Hi Viv. You’ve got a songwriting talent, that’s for sure and I remember the blue strap one from before.
Yes get those chord changes smoothed out and you could have some hits on your hands. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
Perhaps you could put your camera into landscape mode next time. That way we’d get a better view of your guitar and hands.
