Watching Justin’s strumming fundamentals series he discussed proper pick positioning and how to hold the pick.
Justen mentions holding the pick at a slight angle to the strings but I couldn’t tell if he angles the tip of the pick toward the nut or the bridge or if it really matters.
Thanks

Hey welcome Terry!
You basically dont want it to dig in and catch the strings.
So you want it angled with the tip up when strumming down and the tip down when strumming up.
^ this should happen pretty naturally if you are not holding it too tight
The point should be pretty much square on to the guitar body not pointing at the nut or bridge.

In addition, hold the pick so the edge closest to the bridge is HIGHER than the edge closest to the tuning pegs (most people angle this way). A few players angle it the opposite way, but the vast majority angle it down towards the tuning pegs.
The reason is that the pick glides across the strings easier if it catches the string along an edge vs. on the wide flat surface of the pick.

Thanks Eddie, I think this is the angle Justin was referring to that I wasn’t sure about.
Justin was adamant about not holding the pick square to the strings and instead using an angle to give a better glide across the strings.
