Thanks Adrian,
Oldhead49 worked for months on this and he said it was a tough one. He makes it look easy, but it was anything but easy.

Take good care and all the best to you!

:star_struck::star_struck::star_struck: that is just amazing! Wow! Congratulations and thanks for your collabs!

Not so sure about ā€œhearing all the nuancesā€, as on this end - double hearing aids make that a challenge. To compensate I do some of the mix by meter levels, constant listening and bouncing a pre post version to select folks that give me feedback on the mix.

I had some reverb on the vox, but it started to sound tin can like to me. So I took it off. All of what you hear on Fx treatment is delay. There is a setting common on delay called feedback. If you run that up a bit, it adds a hollow, reverb type effect and I did use some of that on the delay circuit.

Hi you LBro and Dave ,

This rocks …cripplerocks

I will use this pic more often :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:, a lot more fun than my current parking ticket :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Hi Gordon,
Yeah, a lot of hours went into this one. Above the hours were months of many issues prolonging the production of this one. We are glad you like this version of Purple Haze. To pull it off, OH49 spent tons of hours slowing down the original song, playing it slow and slowly increasing the original play along song up to full speed.

On drums I did these differently than other drum tracks I have made. I used tempo matching to place the variable length grid over the top of each drum hit location. That took me a ton of time, but produced ā€œliveā€ sounding drums. It would take someone like @Kasper to detect them perhaps, but they are there. Vocals were much the same, a lot of time went into them, trying to sing like Hendrix and in that I think I failed. He simply sings with a choppy short word style that I found very hard to do. I tended to hold out the words longer than he did.

Alas, it all worked out and came together!

All the best to you and thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Hi,
Good to hear you enjoyed our offering of this great number by Jimi. If you like Hendrix, we have a couple more posted on my channel. But I think this is the best one to date.

Be well and take care,
LBro

Hi Willsie,
Thanks so much for the listen and comment!

Great take on a classic track!
Liked everything here, from playing, programming, mix and tones. Perhaps the vocals could have been a bit more front and center, but otherwise I thought they sounded good. Rock on! What’s up next then?

Hi guys,

Great job. Nailed that vintage sound,
The backing vocals/non main vocals - work a treat.
One of my dad’s favourite songs - brings back happy memories.

All the best,

Digger

Hi Maggie,’

Hi Roger,
Good to see you here and thanks for the spin and comments. I like your pic too. All is good here. Oldhead49 is sure cranking out some good stuff these days and tends to cover my vocals for me. Ha, his play distracts from my crooning!

You take good care,
LBro

You two are some incredible collaborators. What a team! You both did a great job in your singing, playing, mixing, FX… Such skill!

Hi Kasper,
You did not comment on the drums, but these were hit by hit made by grid placement using tempo mapping. That took a long time. Glad it was a fairly short song!

Ah the vocals. Well, spin up the original and you will find the lead vox far right. We actually brought them closer to center, but stayed somewhat true to the original. A couple things here. The studio work on the original was done right at the time stereo was making its way into the studio. But there was still a lot of mono used. I can only speculate that may have played a roll in how the original was panned. Then too I think the focus was on the guitar, which is front and center. I do know Jimi was timid about singing. That may have been a factor as well. I read where he would sing behind a partition as he thought his vox was not very good. He did not want to be seen singing in the studio by others. This caused problems in communicating with him when they tracked the song.

Next - Hard to say, but if you wait a bit we will both know… LOL

Take care,
LB

This one had me playing air lead and head bopping involuntarily lol its always nice to hear Hendrix (and played so well). Thanks for sharing!

Hey Diggs,
Thanks for the kind words and take on this one.

Them backing vocals were tough as in some cases I don’t know what they sang, so I winged it.

Great on the memories and that your Dad loved Hendrix!

Hope to see you post soon!
LBro

Hi Pam,
Gosh, them is high words of praise to live up to. But I guess after 60 plus years of trying, things can go right some of the time! Thanks indeed for your listen and kind comments. You are a trooper!

Now all I have to do is find a some you can’t refuse to collaborate on!
Be well,
LBro
