Thanks, that makes sense to me now. You just put the fret numbers in a single column.
I find for more exotic chords, fingering is very important. I suppose you could also put that in a separate column⦠And since itās plain text, you could use letters instead of numbers to avoid confusion. eg
As I say I donāt use it for chords and am happy with them sitting over the lyrics, if Iāve learnt the song regardless of what chords I am playing, SBP is there as a reference opposed to a learning tool. But what ever works for you.
It seems like none of the Songbook Apps supports the full chordpro spec. The best process might be to use the official chordpro tooling, generate pdfs and import those pdfs? Or are some features not available importing pdfs?
Iāll give it a try. Seems like OnSong supports more or less the full spec. I will have a look at that too, before accepting a more complex process involving pdfs.
It involves one more step. Instead of writing chordpro and directly use it within the app I have to create the pdf and import the pdf instead. And Iām not sure if all features work with pdfs (transposing e.g. will not work I guess).
Easy to import songs from UG and easy to edit the imported songs without having to know ChordPro (not that it is hard). Changing keys also very simple.
Previously used SetlistHelper but SongbookPro is more intuitive.
Chiming in here, again, as the thread resurfaced. I switched to Mac, and SongBook Pro doesnāt have a Mac version! So I ended up trying a few alternatives.
Iāve switched to JustChords, thatās been previously mentioned here. Wow, is it good! Similar concept to SongBookPro but more intuitive, and the sync works well - I found it a bit dodgy on SongBookPro.
JustChords is unfortunately Apple only - Mac/iPhone/iPad.
Iāve gone in a different direction to most other people here. My primary device is a 12.9 inch iPad Pro M4 and I use the default Apple Notes app for all of my guitar related notes. I also use a kanban board in the Apple Reminders app to track my progress as I learn songs, each item on the kanban board linking back to itās note.
On one hand thereās no special guitar related functionality by doing it this way but there are some plusesā¦
No extra software to buy / subscribe to
Sync between devices is reliable
Backed up to iCloud
Completely free format - I have notes that are just text, links to YouTube, screen grabs from websites or Yousician, handwritten notes using the Apple Pencil etc
Can filter based on hashtags to bring all notes of a given theme together
Not saying that everyone should switch or that this method is best, but if you have an iPad itās worth taking a look at what you can do with the supplied software before spending (even more) money
Jk, I agree this is an amazing app and the developer (Marek) is a musician so understands our needs. He has also setup a Discord group that can be accessed via the app. If you need help, have any issues or require specific features added, thatās the place to go. Recent features include shared folders which could be useful for events where setlists are shared. Projection is another nice feature. See your songsheets, tabs, lyrics etc on the big screen or stage screen. You can even display different views on 3 screens simultaneously from an ipad.
It also does bulk import of Songbook files and Marek is working with the Songbook developer on shared compatibility for non iPad band members.
If paper is your thing, JC has great print options.
