I often find myself looking at a new user who has posted something on the community but has not formally Introduced themselves, at first I would suggest the norm and point them to the appropriate place, but now it is constant and I am starting to think should I be doing this, I do understand the reason behind this and I agree they should but is there, not an easier way new folk can be prompted to follow the community guidelines
Hi Hec, introducing is certainly not mandatory, and more and more in lesson-specific topics this is asked by fellow forum members without really a substantive answer to a question from the new poster, or sometimes there is no question, but still a request for a introductionā¦of course it is well-intentioned, but a long time ago @Richard_close2u asked us not to do it anymoreā¦ (but that went for just saying āwelcomeā if I remember correctly)
So when you answers a question from a new member, you can point out the introduction, but it is not necessary and an introduction is not necessary at allā¦
Have fun
Hi Hec, its worth remembering that some posts on lesson specific topics may have been made directly via the main website.
Thanks, Roger and James It is difficult to know if you are doing right or wrong sometimes, I am new to this community so it is good to know thanks again
In my time on this planet, I have found that the majority of adults are not very good at following directionsā¦
I donāt mind not introducing themselves - I certainly didnāt do it and Judi hadnāt joined yet so didnāt catch me! ). I think most users donāt know the community yet and are playing it safe.
The thing I see that most would benefit from is to use the search. The same questions come up that are asked frequently and a fast search would give them their answer right away instead of waiting for it.
On the other hand, getting a direct answer from the community helps bring a new person into the group, and they may frequently share their knowledge. I think this is good to encourage.
ā¦ ever had kids?
Iām not a fan of rules and guidelines, except when necessary.
Be polite/respectful is good
I see the sense of the no politcs/religion & swearing, even if I occasionally slip up
Most people who visit the community never post anything
Weād be in serious trouble if everyone shared as much as some of usā¦
Two, plus two grandsons. Kids have an excuse - their brains arenāt fully formed.
Iām afraid the same can be said about a lot of adults, too
Edit: however, given that there are quite a few recurring topics/questions, it would probably be worth adding some new subcategories e.g. for finger/wrist pain, setup for beginners, left-handed playing or other questions that are asked often.
There is no obligation for anyone to do this but its entirely up to us as individuals. I would only add it to a āQuestionā type topic or post if I was providing and answer but that is MHO.
This time of year there is generally an influx of new users and many arrive here by default, so you can have a full time job trying to sheppard them over to say hello via the Intro topic.
Do what you feel is right for you but donāt beat yourself up for not doing it. Simples.
We had a āhealthā type of section in the old JG forum.
When we moved here, the aim was to rationalise the sections and sub-sections and make it as easy to navigate as possible. Even with that aim, the Community is vast and many people mention that they struggle to know where to look or where to post.
Yes itās always a difficult balance. Too many categories and itās bewildering trying to post in the right spot (and youāre really in trouble if your post covers 2 categories) and too few categories and filtering becomes hard.
That said I just look at the all topics, latest posts anyway.
You do realize that people can post directly from the website lessons. So if someone who has never posted on the forum asks a question on the websiteās lesson page it posts here on the lesson Thread. So they would never know about the introduce yourself thread.
What we need is a reminder to longstanding forum members to not clog up lesson specific thread with chit chat and other garbage not reliant to the lesson at hand.
Richard has enough on his plate without having to take out the garbage everyday.
thatās where some of the latest discourse AI might come in handy to do all the house keeping, post classifications, point people in the right direction, translations etc. We could call the new AI helper Richard mK2
Or just RichAIrdā¦
If we could all just remember & live by what we were taught in Kindergartenā¦
Or, to sum it up - Be Nice, Play Fair, Learn & Wonder!!!

Weād also be in serious trouble if we all were like:
Those here who spend time & effort helping others, being generally positive & keeping the atmosphere light & friendly are so very important to making this place what it is!!! I, for one, really appreciate you & others here like you Brian in spite of an intermittent tidbit of:

Like editing lesson specific topic titles
I disagree. Iāve been here for almost 3 years. Iāve responded to many posted questions and even posted my rendition of a song in the performance section of Justinās lesson. I have not, nor will I ever āintroduceā myself, thatās just not me. Come to think of it, that might have just been an introduction.
