The best approach is to start by learning rhythm guitar. Learning rhythm guitar builds fundamental skills that are important for any style of playing. Even if you want to play lead guitar, start by learning rhythm.
Lost count of the time folk have said they are not interested in playing rhythm and just want to play lead like all the greats. If you ain’t got that rhythm foundation you lead will suck. Just hit a tutorial earlier today and literally the first thing said, was if you can’t play rhythm and be in the groove your licks will most likely be out of whack.
