Hi,
I’m a huge Rush fan, so really want to nail at least one song by them. I think Closer to the Heart is a great song and kinda achievable at my beginnerish level. There’s just one part that I can’t get to grips with, it’s the very opening which starts at 1:10 on the video tutorial below (I’ve tagged the YouTube vid to start at that point but sometimes it doesn’t work correctly). No matter what combination of fingers I use, I keep muting the B string with the pad of my middle finger, especially when I slide back for the 4th fret E. I have pretty small hands, but that’s no excuse, right? 
I guess I just need to exercise the stretch a bit more, but has anyone tried this song and if so did they have problems with this and how did they overcome them?
