Sail Away - David Gray cover

So I’ve just updated my learning log after 8 months(way too long) and thought I’d record a video of a song that’s become a bit of a favourite of mine to play along with.
Tips and comments welcome.

Sounding good there Pete! Looks really comfortable for you. You’ve got the vibe of the song down. Looked like you almost started singing near the beginning too.

Got the fan running too I can see, must be that Melbourne heatwave? You can usually see the flickering lights from the fan in my vids too .

Pete sounds great to me ,really enjoyed it.

Wow. The file on the table is such a reminiscent of how I firstly pick up the guitar and learn from Justin =)

Good stuff Pete, smooth strumming pattern and mostly clean chord changes. Your barre chord was the weak one there. Keep at it and you’ll get it.
As you’ve already got the rhythm and strumming nailed, that song is probably a good one to practise your barre chords. If you replace the capo with your first finger as a barre you could slide about into quite a few of the chords in that song.

Sounded great to my ears Peter. Nice smooth and clean strumming. As JK mentioned you had the vibe down and the song was instantly recognizable from the first bar of the song. Great work!

Hi JK, thanks for taking a look. You’re right, I almost started to sing and had to stop myself from ruining the song completely
Melbourne has had a couple of warm days and it certainly heated the house up. But as they say, if you don’t like the weather here, just wait a couple of hours!

Hi Jeff, thanks for the comment and glad you liked it.

@DarkWillowTM Hi Vincent, I’m certainly not the tidiest person but it’s the best filing system I can come up with. There are just so many songs I want to learn.

@sairfingers Thanks Gordon for taking a look. Certainly the barre chords are my weak point. I have found that the best way for me to improve any chord I struggle with is to play songs that test my limits so your suggestion of replacing the capo with my finger will certainly push me along.

@Eddie_09 Glad you liked it Eddie, thanks for taking the time to have a look and comment.

Well played, Peter, and sounded really good, lovely tone.

I especially liked the way you kept your hand moving when not actually playing to keep in the groove.

Thanks David for taking a look and commenting.
I think I’m only now starting to feel the rhythm of some of the songs I play to and can kind of get into their groove.

That was really nicely played Peter. Such a great song to cover. If you want to take it one step further, have a look at Justin’s version, as this has you moving up and down the neck which is also great practice for the moving up and down.

Thanks Stefan. It certainly is a great song to play. I had a look to see if Justin did a lesson on it but couldn’t find anything. :face_with_monocle:

Oh no, so he doesn’t. I thought he would have done. The version I play I got from one of his books. Sorry about that Peter.
