I wrote this one about everyone being stuck on screens and how we miss so much of our real life because of social media etc
Its a bit of an odd song but I kinda like it
The intro/verse guitar parts I wrote as finger style but I sing wayyyyy to loud for softer guitar parts so played with a plectrum as usual
Lyrics:
We’re all addicted to screens
And cheap dopamine
That we try to fit life in the spaces between
We know that it’s not real…right?
We know that this isn’t real life?
So just for a while
Switch off your phone
Share your heart with a loved one
It’s like balm for the soul
Go laugh with your friends
Like you did so long ago
Just for a moment
Tear your eyes from the screen
It’s like mana from heaven
When you find something that’s real
We’re more connected than ever before
But more alone than we’ve ever been
So search for salvation
In an Instagram reel
Hoping for a single emotion that you can feel
@BenHorrocks - just wow! Love the emotion and expression in your voice (and the musicality!) Also super solid guitar. A great package. As a songwriter (and performer), you are awesome.
Oh, no worries, Ben. You’re good! You have strong vocals but not too loud. Great emotion and a beautifully written song. A great incentive for us all to back off of social media, at least for a time, and get out and enjoy life - the real thing.
Honestly words like these always give me such a boost in confidence…
Ive been a guitarist/vocalist (mostly doing screamed metal vocals rather than singing) in bands before but stripping all that back to just me with an acoustic guitar and singing is a whole other kettle of fish!
