trying again. Sorry about having to delete the last try.

First ever chord melody. It’s been a long journey getting to this point. Obviously a long journey ahead as well.
Chord-melody had taught me a great deal about the guitar as well as diving a bit deeper into music theory. It’s been a frustrating yet extremely rewarding journey thus far.

I’m in my garage because of the acoustics. Either that or because my wife kicked out of the sunroom. A little truth to both of these reasons.

Any and all comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated. I’ve already received some great feedback from my previous attempt.

Oh, the song came out the same years as the Triumph Bonneville. The one behind me is the 60th anniversary edition.

Irrelevant note: funny how the brain instantly links ideas. The first thing that came to my mind was the line ‘sealed with a kiss’ in the Sex Pistols’ song ‘Looking for a Kiss’. The second was the New York Dolls’ song of the same name.

There’s a 45 of me somewhere in storage of me singing this in one of those recording booths at Rockaway Beach, NY Playland around 1961 or so. :laughing:

Thanks Jim. I thought it appropriate where the song is just about the same age as the introduction of the Triumph Bonneville. My bike is the 60th anniversary model. Which explains the unique paint job and the extra chrome from the factory.

Thank you for the listen. One thing about chord-melody (no vocals), if the song is not known it may sound pleasant to the listener but it doesn’t ring any bells. When I was a kid, of about 12 in 1968, it was one of those songs you just couldn’t get out of your head.
To younger folks it’s probably unknown.
Brian Hyland first (I believe) released it in 1961 or 62. I really can’t recall when I first learned of the song. It may have ven have been then. Although I’d have been 6 years old.

That’s a very worthy performance of your SWAK chord melody. Nice mix of picking patterns, melody & chords. Sounded nice, Mike. You’ve done something beyond my pay grade.

Nice Bonnie. Looks like you’ve got the modern interpretation of the T120 with the 1200cc twin. I was really into bikes throughout the 60s, and the Bonnie 650 twin and Norton Dominator 650 were my poster bikes, with the Vincent Black Shadow something you just didn’t dare dream of aspiring to.

I looked up when SWAK was released, and Brian Hyland (I only vaguely remember him) recorded it in 1962. The Bonnie was introduced in 1959 and the Dominator 650, with the exalted Featherbed frame, in 1961. Vincent, which built its bikes in Stevenage, only about 45 miles from where I lived, had sadly folded by the 60s.

Yes, it’s the T120 1200cc. This particular model, in 2020 is called the Diamond Edition. 900 made.

I’ve had a few bikes in my day but for a reason I can’t explain, the Bonnie has always been special to me. Perhaps because it was considered such a special bike when I was a kid of about 15-16 or so.

Also Steve McQueen, Elvis and the Fonz drove Bonnevilles.
