The idea is to talk about Seattle bands fromany genre not just grunge. . .though I suspect it’ll move heavily in one direction. . .and. . .go!!!
I got ya
I can do altrock grunge cause thats my jam, but this is a little thought of artist that many dont realize is from that city. Everyone gets distracted from that other song about baby back .
His other stuff is way good too.
Sir Mix-A-Lot
Posse on Broadway.
Mother Love Bone the primer for Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. So amazing. Did they statmrt it all? Maybe not, but they were certainly there.
This song really burns into my memories what it was like to be still in my teens at the beginning of 1990 and to be starting life on your own. The 1990s was an amazing time to be really getting into the music in the North West. Things were innocent, the world had not been destroyed like we had been told for so long.
Makeup and HairMetal was dead, amazing and great new sound was popping up. So many amazing bands doing shows just about every week in town at small venues and a lot of them would go on to become huge acts. What a time to be alive.
So. . .I arrived in Seattle in June of 1990. . . Small town boy in the “big city”, didn’t know a single soul in the whole city. Had a job though. I was 22. Old enough to drink in any bar that would have me and young enough to want try them all. I saw some FABULOUS shows in that city between 90 and 92 when I left the US for The Gambia.
Andy Wood had OD’ed that Spring if memory serves and Mother Love Bone was stalled and lookin for a new vocalist. . .Soundgarden was workin away at their thing. . . And Kurt Cobain was a skinny guy who dabbled in class A’s, made some quirky rock tunes and had a parrot named Polly with whom he shared a really, really messy studio apartment dive somewhere below 10th on Capitol Hill. . .
All the soon to be Mega famous were just regular guys dealing with being young in the US in the early 90s. . . My all time favourite band to see live in those days was a band tha that hould have been global but somehow just didn’ t ever quite. . . .fit. . .here’s one track from probably my favourite album of theirs. . . .meet THE FASTBACKS
What a time to be alive. . .indeed. . .
Those guys rock, I totally remember them doing shows in Northern California. I am almost sure I saw them at the Squaw valley Lodge in like 93. Well as sure as I can be about any thing in 1993.
