I first put this on my LL because I thought it needed more work but looking back it’s probably as good as it’s gonna get. Legend has it that Harrison wrote this whilst staying at his parents house. That house is walking distance from where I live so there is a slight connection:
This ones a bit of a workout for the OMC’s. Again I’m playing all the guitar parts:
The YouTube algorithm presented me with a guitar version of this song so I thought I’d have a go. I’m playing everything apart from the drums. If you can bear to stay with it, there is a guitar solo at the end: I think it was Steve Cropper who said if you can’t think of anything you could always try the melody.
I heard this playing in the local mini-market and came home and did it. Not the first time that’s happened. Again I’ve dropped it down a couple of half-steps from the original. Run to You by Bryan Adams:
Thanks Brian @beejay56 and Eddie @Eddie_09. I saw Bryan Adams doing an unplugged version on YouTube so tried that. Then the battery on my electro-acoustic went. But it really is a Strat song so I did both…
Peter, nice work on Gently Weeps. I have bad hearing, so maybe it’s my hearing, but I would have liked to have heard the backup a little higher in the mix.
You’ve said, "I’ve played guitar on and off since I was a teenager. Having more time now I’m of retirement age, my goal is to fine tune my abilities by going back and craft away at all those things I did before and really master them. I think this will help my mental agility as I get older.:
I think it’s working.
Being of advanced age, I’ve found it does help, and my doc even recommended I not give it up, that it’s good for the mental aspect and dexterity.
Really nice performance. I enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks Nicole @JokuMuu . As per my LL this was just a WIP and I’d intended to do a key change for the last solo. I did the song in Gm but wanted to move to Am for the last solo as the key change there would be quite impactful. But I never got to fix a backing track with the key change. So that solo was improvised and I suddenly released the track was ending at that bend haha. Not the ending I would have done with the key change.
Thanks Dave @oldhead49 and fair comment. I capture this on an ancient laptop and play the backing track through an even more ancient laptop. That goes through my old analogue PA mixer along with the vocal and amp mikes. It all goes into one track on the video so I can’t go back and change the levels; it’s a one shot one take thing.
I actually stopped playing for a year till a few months ago but thought I needed something to keep the brain cells occupied so came back. Still struggling to remember things - currently working on Still Got The Blues that I used to do (amongst other things)
You have invested some time into your recordings, as the production quality surely demonstrates … and clearly your brain cells are fully occupied! …
I would say you have recovered your skill-fade after such a long break really well; kudos to you for perseverance. Four years into learning, I have just returned to playing yesterday after a 4wk break … a ‘rude awakening’ for me,
I am sure ‘Still Got The Blues’ will be back under the fingers quite soon after listening to your post.
HI,
I missed this when it was up the chart a bit. Thankfully I took it in at last. I really like this song and how you did it. It is a nice production for sure. I liked your guitar tone, but to me I think you could tweak it a bit to make it even better. Just a subjective comment there.
But all in all a most enjoyable listen, for sure.
You and @oldhead49 are in the same camp and I know for a fact he runs the same kind of gear you do. Something like a 10 plus year old laptop and few add ons. You both show that it is not the fancy gear that makes a fine production. But, rather it is a matter of getting the most out of what you got. Fine job on that and all aspects!
