I had always liked to try playing a strat-style guitar. Friend had some guitars lying around. He told me that I could borrow a strat type guitar from him which he hadn’t used in a year, and needed “setting up”. It is in a cosmetically good condition, and I could play it with some effort as the action seems to be on the higher side. He gave me it’s “key” alongwith this guitar.
I don’t know anything about setting a guitar up, but in the past I have worked with wood in a workshop. I don’t plan on using the tremolo/ whammy bar on it. I may just remove it, and my friend was fine with it as long as I carefully keep it stored away.
I would like to perform a setup on my own, so that the playability improves and the action is on the lower side. This guitar has SSH type pickups (humbucker in bridge position). I have a string height gauge from when I had bought one for my acoustic, but I did not feel the need to set it up at the time.
I haven’t looked at them all. It doesn’t get any simpler than following the step-by-step instructions that come with this set, and you really need the tools to do it anyway.
Whenever I’ve heard a whammy bar in use I’ve never liked the sound of it, entirely a subjective opinion. When I bought my guitar I specifically bought a hardtail because I knew I would never use it.
If I had known anything about guitars when I bought mine, that’s what I’d have done too. I bought mine based on the picture on the Dean Zelinsky Web site. But it’s fine, because my bridge is very stable and the guitar stays in tune like a rock.
