Should i buy an electric guitar as a beginner?

Alright, let me break this Down for ya. So I am in grade 2 currently, and I was thinking about getting an electric guitar. I have an acoustic, and I have been learning on that, and I thought, maybe I need to get to the intermediate grades, before i buy an electric. My favorite music is played on electric, thats why I want one. What do you guys think?

not necessary, but if you feel you’ll practice more with it, thats a good thing. just beware, there are a lot of stratocaster coat racks out there……so dont go big $$$ at first

What do you mean by stratocaster coat racks?

it sits in the stand so long without being used people start hanging clothing on it.

Yes, definitely. No need to go crazy, but don’t go too cheap either.

You don’t need to wait though I would seek advice on what to buy based on your location, budget and what turns you on.

best thing you can do is go to a guitar store and play a few. if it feels awesome in your hands and sounds great the debate is over. (assuming it doesnt cost more than your car) ……if it sounds not to much different than what u already have, keep on truckin with the one you own.

I always try to add my own personal experience on these posts, so here it goes:
I got very excited about electric, so went and bought a cheap electric with cheap amp, online. Needles to say, it didn’t sound great or was very easy to play, so I became very uninterested.
Over time I’ve realized how important is to be excited about your instrument.
So my advice would be of course! Go for the electric but try a few first, there are a lot of great options without breaking the bank (the Squier series by Fender for example)

Theres a guitar shop here in my town, so I’ll go try some guitars there.

I agree with you, that interest in the instrument is very important. Fx i have a friend, who has been taking guitar lessons unwillingly for a couple of years. I started Playing guitar a couple of months ago, and because of my interest, Im already far better at guitar than him.

Like already mentioned, you’ve answered your own question.

I see the word Squire thrown around a bit.
I beg to differ. Don’t get hung up on brands.
Then, single coils and humbuckers are quite different things, even between humbuckers, it still depends on what kind of music you wanna play.

So, yes get an electric guitar but don’t buy any random one just so you have an electric guitar. Do your research and buy one that is likely to fit your needs.
