Should I subscribe to Strumming SOS or buy the Rhythm book?

Hi all. I have been working on my rhythm, learning and understanding. I am up to 16 notes and playing different rhythm patterns, both just tapping on my knee with the metronome, and then using Rhythm Maestro sheets to play with on the guitar.

I looked over the website and found Justin older Rhythm book, which according to one of his videos has a lot of different rhythms to practice that he created with a drummer.

I am thinking at this time I Just need to cotinue the practice of different rhythms, with tapping, muted strings and then chords, but see the Strumming SOS course and the following 2 courses related to it.

Would it be better give the above info for me to get the rhythm book ? or the course?

Which grade are you ? How long have you been playing ? And what do you want to learn ?

Strumming SOS level 1 is like a refresher on grade 1 basic strumming technique, while level 2 and 3 are new concepts. That’s why the 3 courses bundle is good value. Off course, the course is more interesting and engaging than the rhythm book as it’s video based. They both cover different aspects of guitar. The rhythm book goes deeper in rhythm, but does not cover dynamics and finger strumming. If you liked the rhythm maestro course, you have nothing to loose grabbing a copy of the book and doing it in parralel.

At the end of grade one starting grade 1

I’m really trying to work on rhythm as I feel it is really off…

I think I will get the sos course when I can afford it and play with the rhythm maestro stuff

Good plan :+1: Also, something that helped me with rhythm at that time is the JustinGuitar app. Playing along to the simplified backing tracks, hearing the strumming pattern, having the visual cue on the beats. You may try it for a month and see if it helps.

Hello Bret, I suggest you do both… I completed the SOS Course and I’m now working on the Strumming Dynamics. The SOS is absolutely helpful and the practice on the Rhythm Book is something different, something that my brain really needs…strumming patterns are easier to practice, the random Rhythms on the book to tap with your hands make you concentrate on the Rhythmical aspect only, they require slow accurate practice with the metronome and it’s like I slowly train my brain to be more alert for what’s coming because there’s not the repetition of the pattern. I’m a big fan of the Rhythm Book.

Hey Bret!

All I can do is echo what the others have said here. It’s all good input. I just wanted to tell you that I think you are absolutely correct to focus on rhythm in your playing from the early stages of learning. It is absolutely fundamental to the whole of your musical journey.

Have FUN and keep it rolling. . . .

Ok so I ended up getting the Rhythm book, which was available on Amazon AU… I am super happy with it, so now it is going to be a daily thing, tapping and playing rhythms for 5 min a day just with this book…
