Oh they did so well this morning! We had a whole 30 minutes session! They’re just amazing!
some things can’t be told
…let’s say I was a manager and said I worked part-time…happy end
Can you guess what this might be?
It’s a
CHORD MELODY BLANKSHEET ARRANGER!
eeeehh!
The main struggle while arranging I Will had been positioning the notes accurately in the bar and it made the process way longer than it could have been.
I know what my notes are and I know where they are on the fretboard…knowing exactly where they are in the bar is more challenging for me…but with this I can listen to the original recording, tap the beats on the sheet, put the syllables correctly and arrange bars correctly from the beginning…that melisma thing is driving me a bit crazy though
Thanks for sharing Silvia, a lovely piece well played. It’s great to see you playing classical as there are so few of us on here who do, so it’s inspiring for me to know that I am not alone. How do you choose the music you learn so that it’s the right level for you to stretch? I am using the Trinity College Classical Guitar graded books and now also have a book called Basic Pieces by Juan Antonio Muro which give me a break and a chance to play something else when it’s taking forever to learn a longer piece. I think I may have finally memorised my latest piece (Nostagia: Petite Melodie by Julio Sagreras) but
I don’t seem able to record myself without making a mess of it and getting frustrated. You have encouraged me to set recording myself as a goal again. Thank you!
Hi Kim, I’m happy to hear from you and to read your keeping at your Classical Guitar Studies
I mainly stick to the Method Book I’m following, but lately I’m not enjoying it anymore and now it’s a few months alreadyit is in the drawer…sight-reading was distressing me and I thought I would take a break. I chose this piece because I kind of could say, very roughly actually, what was going on by observing the pros’ renditions and after a closer look at the music sheet. No need to say I was already in love with it and listening to it really way more than a lot. It seemed challenging, and it has been, but still doable.
This sounds like something that you’re enjoying and being beneficial to your learning as well!
I had a listen on YouTube and found it lovely, but with the Method I’m following I wouldn’t be able to approach it at the moment…and mainly I panick at thinking to play beyond fret 5 Canzone d’amore is my first piece where there are only a couple of passages beyond that.
Don’t get discouraged, it certainly is a challenging piece and not short for a beginner. Being able to play confidently longer and longer pieces is something we build along the way…2 minutes is like “Wow! Did I do it for real?!”
What is really good is being able to accomplish the simpler and shorter ones which make you think" oh, I was playing confidently!" and just feel great and make you feel more and more confident along the way which is leading you to the longer and more complex things.
Thanks a lot Kim for checking my LL and listening to my recording…and for your kind words of appreciation too!
Vibes from this morning’ s rehearsals
Lyrics
Sometimes the face changes color
And the heart picks up speed
There’s something strange in the belly
It’s not hunger, but who knows what it will be
Things that make you shiver
Or scare you to death
A greeting that makes you stammer
Giggles that never stop
If it happens that you can’t stay still
Waiting for something new
If the mouth won’t stop talking
When you explode with happiness
Take an emotion, call it by name
Find its color and what sound it makes
Take it by the hand, follow it slowly
Feel how it’s born, look where it goes
Take an emotion and don’t send it away
If you want to play with it, swap it with mine
You can explain it to those who don’t know it
And you’ll see your whole life
An emotion will be
Emotions are the rainbow
That colors the sky inside us
They are clouds, they are the clear sky
They are the salt and pepper of what you do
There’s the anger that you can’t understand
And you don’t know if then it will pass
But really, just talk
And the solution will be found
If new things are a little scary
Bring out your curiosity
Every day is truly an adventure
Tomorrow will surprise you
Take an emotion, call it by name
Find its color and what sound it makes
Take it by the hand, follow it slowly
Feel how it is born, look where it goes
Take an emotion and don’t send it away
If you want to play with it, swap it with mine
You can explain it to those who don’t know it
And all your life you will see
Sometimes (Sometimes)
You don’t understand (You don’t understand)
The emotion that is inside you (Inside you)
Maybe it’s just (Maybe it’s just)
Because you grow
And with ever new eyes you will discover the world
Take an emotion, call it by name
Find its color and what sound it makes
Take it by the hand, follow it slowly
Feel how it is born, look where it goes
Take an emotion and don’t send it away
If you want to play, swap with mine
You can explain it to those who don’t know
And all your life you will see
An emotion will be
Lovely vibes!
Silvia
Brilliant!

Thank you @Boris1565 @beejay56! It requires a lot of commitment to get only some Joyful noise they don’t like at all that they can’t do the “two three four!” thing but just focus on the singing
Delightful, such unbridled enthusiasm, Silvia, thanks for sharing.
the little monsters, you hear some of them “singing” a bit loudly and rebelliously
It made me very happy
greetings good luck and have fun with further preparation
Dear Rogier…that’s the right word
I knew it would
We’re putting things together and both yesterday and today it went just great and the kids got much praise and compliments…eventually after some shouting from last week
I decided not to sing so that I can focus on being more accurate on the guitar (some F#m to C#m giving me some trouble) - the other reason is that my colleague has such a fine voice that can catch ANY note, while I can’t and she also has an amazing time feeling and feels where the singing starts very naturally! It just comes out better if I don’t sing.
Thank you! Hopefully we won’t mess all the work up the day of the party
MAY UPDATE
What an intense month…I’m boiled
and very much grateful to have my guitars to keep me safe through life challenges
Thanks Rogier for the picture That’s really true! The valuable thing is that a guitar would always help to tune with ourselves…and that’s already a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed my video update as I was lazy to write.
Hi Silvia, great video update - you never disappoint. How far you have come with the classical piece ! I’m currently in Italy for holidays and loved to hear your version of the Italian piece I know but can’t find the title in my brain right now! Sorry to read you had a hard month. I wish you can get some relaxation soon
!
Hi Andrea…enjoy your holiday! The weather has started being more summer-like right this past week with nice warm temperatures finally!
It’s not been just this month to distress me, only I might be just more tired and struggle to cope with my usual positiveness.
The song is Soli by Celentano…I need to work some more on the strumming technique on its own and then apply it to the song again, but I thought it wasn’t too bad and posted the video to keep track and as a reminder to myself that the technique is not so difficult as I had imagined it to be.
Uhh, I hope things will get better soon!
Should have known that, Celentano was my first guess (then Umberto Tozzi came into my mind) but I didn’t know the title any more . I’m getting old! This one was popular here too. For me, Celentano was a comedy actor in my childhood, I only realized he was a serious musician when I grew up.
Silvia, Bravo, I really enjoyed your early rendition of Canzone d’Amore.
I can see that you are motivated by dreamer classical arrangements and you are making amazing progress making this part of your repertoire. Your performance of this song makes me want to learn this piece some day.
