I’m Simon. I live in Ashtead which is in Surrey in the UK. I’m originally from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire (also in the UK). I’ve played piano since I was about 6 or 7. I gave it up for while, then started playing again when I was about 15. I taught myself to play chords in the left hand and play the melodies with the right hand. I was in a band as a keyboard player for about 5 years in my 30s, and have played in church for many years. I returned to having lessons 4 years ago, but gave up about a year ago as it was getting in the way of other things I wanted to do musically and my duet partner moved away from the area.
I started playing bass in the church worship band, about 12years ago, but only started learning it properly in 2021. Since then I’ve acquired 4 basses, which I found is half a bass too many (3 wasn’t enough and 4 is too many to choose from ). I currently play bass in a band - we only really play at Jam / Open mic nights, but may start gigging soon.
I recently bought a PRS SE 24-08 electric guitar with a work bonus, so decided to invest a bit of time in learning how to play it. I’ve messed around on guitar for about 25 years, but never tried to learn it properly. So that’s why I am here. I think I’d like to get to the stage where I can play guitar at Jam nights as (oddly) we have more bass players than guitarists at my regular jam night.
I recently submitted my 1st video on this forum: Time of your life (Good Riddance) by Green Day. I look forward to doing some more.
@CATMAN62 here you go with some photos. I couldn’t find a “Show us you guitars” thread so you (along with anyone else who finds themself in this thread) have an exclusive .
In addition to those in the stablemates photo, I have a short scale Ibanez headless base in sea foam green (it’s a funky instrument) and a six string electro acoustic (Tanglewood are the manufacturers). Oh and a piano and a Roland synth.
Hi Simon, welcome to the community forum. Your musical background should help you with learning the guitar. The piano and bass knowledge are complementary to guitar. Just add drums and you can create your own band tracks.
