a story type song of passion.
this one has been a struggle. I loved it, hated it, liked it, loved it etc…
the song once had a chorus which felt forced (lyrically and vocally) so I killed it and left with a few verses and a bridge. not sure that works?
tried a few different key moving capo around 1/2 step
Does work perfectly fine, Dan! Not having the “typical” song structure adds to the feeling of a story being told/sung and goes well with your tune. I could just sit there and listen and forget about life for a while. Lovely picking pattern, too. Another well crafted song of yours - thanks for sharing!
Dan, great stuff for reasons not yet known to me, there are times I hear a certain song and it just works for me, resonates with me or whatever. Maybe lyrics, or melody, progression, who knows Well, this one of them.
I tried hard Dan to find something that I could say I’d like to have heard done differently but, loved it all.
Happy to listen to songs like that all week long, well done,
Loved it! The accompaniment was good: the steps down from the bridge back to the verse were clever. Your pick through the verses was spot on and complimented the lyrics. The lyrics are intriguing and involving: I love songs that seem somehow familiar yet defy complete understanding; they encourage me to keep coming back to them. Heard echoes of Nick Cave and Harry Chapin. Loved it!
Really enjoyed this, Danny
The sound quality of your basement tapes is vastly superior to the ‘en plein air’ effort
Out of curiosity, were you going to play this for us on Saturday?
The fingerpicking and vocals were on point as usual.
I enjoyed the imagery that I caught and was interested enough to hunt down the lyrics on your YouTube channel. Still slightly enigmatic, but I prefer that
Encore!
Very nice - not every song needs a chorus! Love the story arch and how it is supported by the guitar accompaniment, the ambiguous = intriguing chord voicings, and the melody. The picking is interesting as well but it feels unnecessarily busy in places. I am wondering if the song would sound even better if you thinned out the pattern at the end at least (fewer notes per bar). Just a thought.
Wow! That was amazing. I followed the story in my mind. I guess that’s why a couple comments above were speaking of imagery. You are really good in all aspects. Lovely song.
