Hi everyone - I’m just wrapping up Grade 2 and revisiting some songs from the OG beginners songbook that I never actually tackled back then.
This is my take on Sittin’ On The Dock of the Bay. This song actually came out 5 years before I was born. lol. I dropped it down to Eb (half step down) to sit a little better in my vocal range - Otis gets up there, especially in that funky bridge section.
I also worked on the “push” rhythm that Justin talks about in his lesson video for this song, really focusing on catching that up-strum on the chord changes. It took a bit to get, but started to feel more natural after a while.
Very enjoyable version of a great song. At the end of the line, "sittin’ here resting my bones’ there’s a slight increase in the volume of the guitar accompaniment: I think you could try that at the end of every line, or every other line, to add to the dynamics. Similarly you could experiment with the loudness and tone of your singing to develop variation in the vocal . Looking forward to your next performance.
Well done Tosh, great, great song. I wish your guitar had recorded as clearly as your vocal. It sounded too quiet and not quite distinct enough on my end. But from what I heard and saw it was a good job.
