Snooker - any fans on here?

Iā€™m curious to see if there are any other snooker fans among us. The 2025 Masters have just started, the opening match is John Higgins vs Neil Robertson. Robertson filled in for Ronnie Oā€™Sullivan who withdrew a few days ago due to low performance.

Any bets on the results or the winner? Iā€™d be happy to see Higgins win something already as he hasnā€™t won a ranking event for 4 years now. Mark Selby, Judd Trump or Mark Williams would also deserve a win.

I reckon trump or Williams, Higgins seems to bottle it these days once he sees the finish line.

if I knew what snooker was, I could tell you if I was a fan of it or not.

Itā€™s a type of billiard game:

I wasted(?) many, many hours of my youth playing all manner of billiards but mostly snooker and 8-ball. Itā€™s been a decade or two since Iā€™ve touched a cue though other than to move it from one side of my closet to the other.

Years ago I thought it was boring, until I learned about the rules, tactics, etc. Now my brother and I frequently watch the matches unlessā€¦ we are preoccupied with volleyball
Snooker is a game requiring exceptional skills (at a pro level at least), but thatā€™s what makes it such fun to watch.

There was a saying in my family that playing ā€œwas a sign of a miss spent youthā€
I havenā€™t watched a match for years.
I could be wrong but I think the popularity on TV starts in the UK with a programme on BBC2 in the 1969. Just at the time when colour TVā€™s where just becoming available.ideal for colour. It had two professional play a frame which rather strangely seem to last the right time for the programme. Things snowballed from then and I remember a large audience stopped up to the early hours to watch the 1985 final between Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor. Who can forget Hurricane Higgins.
When I lived at home we had six foot table and spent hours playing on it and later with my girlfriend (now wife). When we got married we used play at a local snooker club. She didnā€™t half get some strange looks when we walked in right up until the point that she would have a near perfect break with the cue ball rolling gentle to the bottom cushion. I am sure times have change but at the time snooker clubs where a very male domain.
Still got my cue, best not get it out as it might detract from my guitar playing.

I used to watch a load of it and also played a little (very badly).

In the many years that have passed my eyesight has deteriorated so playing on a 12ft table (or even a 6ft table) just isnā€™t feasible and I donā€™t have the attention span to watch full matches. Sure I could get contact lenses but any time I put into learning to play again is all time thatā€™s not going into playing guitar!

I love watching games if if find the time for it.
Tried it myself sometimes, but i found that i could use some binoculars (my eye sight isnā€™t all that good), when thereā€™s a ball waiting for some corner pocket and the cue ball was on the other side of the table. (When will they invent guided cue balls, i wonderā€¦ )
