So much choice so where to start?

I have been playing acoustic guitar for several years with varying success with local tutors in Oxfordshire. Having visited the Justin Guitar website and viewed several lessons/advice I am confused as to where to start my Justin Guitar Journey.
I would class myself as an Intermediate hoping to get to advanced and so would welcome advice on where to jump in and what path to follow.
Many thanks,
David Hunter

Welcome in, I was in the same situation myself about 8 years ago - I went right back to the start making sure that I hadn’t missed anything. I was shocked by how much I had missed or not learned correctly. If you’re ok, it will be a reasonably short exercise, but well worth doing. When you’ve done it either concentrate on the things that interest you most or have a go at something new to you.

Solid advice to make sure you’ve got the essientials with you and you haven’t cultivated bad habits in your journey so far.

Browse through the grades to gain a top-down insight of the contents and topics:

It’s possible that you are smooth with all E and A shape barre chords and you can change smoothly and accurately in songs. Chord wise, you would be Grade 5 already
BUT
In between this knowledge, there is a lot more to discover about scale, basic theory, strumming concepts etc.

Perhaps is making an honest assesment on the content of the modules and your actually knowledge and aptitude a good idea? You will need to find a way to asses your personal SWOT anyway

If you want a more precise assesment of your Strenghts, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, you can always consider booking a session with one of the Approved Teachers.

Also; you could check the Live Club to assess where you are and where you want to go. It is not a direct answer to your question but it will help set a course:

Good advice

For some acoustic fun while you figure out your path with the tools already given, make sure to check those 2 gems which are taken from grade 4 intermediate.

This is exactly what I did as well - I hadn’t played guitar in a few years so had to build my calluses back up, and even so it only took about a month to go through Grade 1 and then a few more to go through Grade 2.

There were a lot of little things Justin covered even in these early grades that made a big impact on my playing despite having “played” guitar for many years before.

Your mileage may vary, but for me it was definitely time well spent.

As others have said, start at ground zero but be honest and diligent as you go through ALL the lessons, including what you think you know. You may have picked up bad habits, we all do over many stop start attempts or have just been taught somethings that are weak or even short cuts. You may learn some new ways or doing things but read the lesson text as well as watching the video, there will explainers on why things are done a certain way, build stepping stones for the future.

Most of the stuff you will likely whizz through, some may actually be new. When you start hitting them stuff that is new to you, you will have reached your true level and you can start building from there by just following the Graded system.

I’d been messing around for 17 years before finding Justin’s old Beginners Course and new a few things or so I thought. Best thing I did was to start over and relearn from scratch.

Welcome to the Community.

Justin often says in his lessons “there are no rules”. So feel free to go through each lesson in detail as mentioned by several already or just look for songs you like and enjoy what you pick up in an ad-hoc manner.

Hi David, same here.
Came here after one year and went back to start.
I don’t think it’s a problem to watch things you know already.

Every here and there will be hints that you missed before! And you can go through those lessons in a quicker succession than later, when you really want to practice and review the things Justin showed. You don’t lose a lot of time this way!

But - like Tony says above, in the end you’ll decide and you’ll hopefully know how to keep it fun!
