Well done, Thomas, making good progress with this piece. It would be helpful from a giving of feedback perspective if you could record the video in landscape orientation and upload as normal video rather than a short.

From a feedback perspective, I think focus some practice on keeping the thumb drive bass beat consistent. If I recall correctly it should be played on every beat of the bar.

Keep on keeping on!!

Hello Tom,

nice play and vibe.
I agree with David. Would be good to see your picking and fretting hand, so we can see for better feedback. But vibe is great. Keep goin.

Thanks David, will change to landscape. I had trouble finding any format I could upload so will look into that. And you are right on that thumb 4 beats every bar, with exception of the starting intro bit and the very last bar I think. I suspect I am missing some thumb beats now and then. Will keep working on that!

Thank you Carreta and its good to know it has a vibe! Will keep at it.

Well done Tom. I’ve tried the steady thumb thing several times and given up as I just can’t seem to get the independent thumb thing going. Well done to you for getting to grips with it.
Yes, as the others have said, we need to see your hands both for feedback and for learning from others purposes.

Thank you! Maybe don’t totally give up - I saw video where Mark Knopfler said it took him a very long time and then each next step in fingerstyle and keeping steady thumb took a long time but after a long while it finally worked. I think the neurons take a long while to make the connections. For me when I started in January on this one, I could not do even one bar anywhere near right. I still probably am missing some thumb beats but its come to along way. I probably should have video that first go to feel good about progress lol.

I will get the video in landscape and show the two hands. Cheers

very helpful feedback! I went back over this and looked at the score and my playing had my wife listen in. Perhaps in the video I missed a thumb beat but I practiced again against the guitar pro 8 file and the tablature and I do hit every thumb beat - or at least when I practice mindfully without any camera I do! Now because I palm mute the bass strings, they might be subdued and not easy to hear. But going back over it all based on your feedback reinforced my thumb beat and also my counting out loud. You probably know but there are a few notes that fall on the + so there’s no thumb there because its between the 4/4 thumb beat. Anyway that feedback helped me polish this one up!

Coming along nicely Tom. I’m struggling with this piece. I’m not finding it easy to pick the notes cleanly. Lots of wrong notes. Your picking is quite clean by comparison.
