I happened across an old CCR CD in my basement and fortunately my truck has a CD player. I thought maybe I’ll tackle a CCR song so I listened to all 20 tracks. Thinking along the way I’d choose a popular track such as Fortunate Son or Who’ll Stop The Rain or one of the other huge CCR hits.
Then I came to the very last song on the CD. I’m not even 100% sure I had any familiarity with it. But having an 11 year old grandson who calls me PaPa it immediately caught my attention with the very first line in the lyrics. Cuz he sure says “Papa why….” a great deal.
I don’t know, I just fell in love with the song. Maybe again or maybe for the first time. It really sure.
So anyway I wanted to try it. Although I wasn’t trying to channel Fogerty, I think my brain and vocals had him stuck in my mind as I attempted to sing the song.
You may have said that right thing at the right time that helps keep a guitar in this old man’s hands he so often ponders putting down permanently.
Because of his vocals.
What a sweet thing to say.
Thank you Maggie.
As I said in my initial post, I believe this isn’t one of CCRs big hits. The melody was a bit familiar to me but I can’t say I knew the song prior to listening to the entire CD just prior to playing it.
I’m a bit surprised it wasn’t a bit hit for them where the melody is so catchy. Once heard it finds a place in your brains song catalogue forever .
Thanks so much for the listen and the kind words Phil.
Big hit or not, it is one of my favorite CCR songs, maybe because of the tone of melancholy of the song, don’t know. I like this song and I liked your rendition of it, caught me singing along to it. Well done, pls don’t put that guitar down
