Howdy Clint,
It’s been a while. I recall your Bobby D homage. I enjoyed that and this one too
Soft focus lens, gentle thumb-strumming, reverb-laden vocals all very mellow and smooth…
My kind of music.
I did notice you replaced the third verse about handing out the arms and ammo and blasting our way through…
Just a whim or intent?
Thanks @brianlarsen !
Yeah, it’s been a while. Glad to be back in the fray.
This was a low-fi recording (just iPhone mic) with some post-production echo added. The first and second verses were flipped and the 3rd verse was dropped on purpose.
Nicely done, Clint,
It has been a number of years since listening to this song and enjoyed your cover.
Well played
Haven’t heard that song in years Clint and I really enjoyed your version. The thumb strum and mellow vocal approach really suits the song.
Great to hear from you, it’s been a while.
That was a warm rendition of an anthem that meant a lot to young people like me when it was released in 1969. Sadly, 55 years later the world seems to be mostly missing the message…
Hi Clint, nice performance. You’ve taken out the angst of the original vocal and replaced it with a gentle approach that, for me, works very well with the gently played acoustic. Love it and wished I’d thought of it.
Thanks for giving it a listen!
Thanks Gordon! It’s an oldie that seems topical right now.
My voice is all but shot at this point --so it’s hard singing softly over a jangly steel string. I can still rock though (with lots of muted strums). LOL
Hey Clint,
Nicely done and liked the mello approach. Not sure on what I think is a heavy delay. To me and my ears, you could change that up a bit and come across better. But it does fit the vibe, or perhaps makes it so.
It is kind of like garden strolling music. So I hope you can get out and enjoy the stroll through your grove…
Be well,
LB
Another example for an “I made it my own” song .
I’m not familiar with the song and didn’t compare, took it just as it is.
I liked your rendition, the only thing that came to my mind is, to turn the echo/delay a bit down. Not because it sounded “bad” but your singing voice is so pleasing, you simply don’t “need” it (I would prefer it just pure like in Masters of War).
But that’s only my individual taste.
Enjoyed it!
Thanks for the listen and kind words!
Sadly, many of the “instigators” (now and historically) have either been assassinated, had assassinations attempted, been silenced or more recently marginalized or cancelled.
That picture is remarkable. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you sir!
Yeah, we can prepare for the changes that are coming (for better or worse) and still promote/support the instigators of reasonable change.
The song is in open E, which provides a lot of air and depth --and just feels good to play. Have a go at it.
Oh, I like this. You really made the song your own, that’s a requirement for all good cover versions.
Thanks @Helen0609! I hear you, but it’s not about need --just continuing to play with tone, EQ and such. I probably have 50 tracks like Masters of War with little to no EQ and a better mic.
I think the echo did some cool things with the guitar tone on a bare bones iPhone. Bear in mind that I sing in service to the song and to keep my playing in time. Soft strumming is so that I don’t have to strain my voice as much.
Ah, I see! Totally understandable. Didn’t mean that as criticism, just my first impression. Maybe I should mention, that since I learn to play guitar, I’ve even more respect for the pure “one man, one guitar” approach.
This is a great thing to explore! I’m currently discovering delay/echo. I was inspired by a certain song, it’s remarkable how good settings can add to the flavour of a song, although it can pretty challenging to play over a delayed loop. Teaches accuracy and feel!
Hey there! Been missing you. Glad you’re back. Very enjoyable, easy listening song. And as always creatively making it your own in your own style. You inspire me!
Thank you! Much appreciated.
You got it together nicely here Clint.
Vibes.
