Songs about being seventeen - playlist suggestions

I am making a playlist for my daughter who turns 17 next month. Her musical tastes are quite wide ranging - from Jazz Manouche to current pop with all points in between. Got any songs I can add to my list?

I Saw Her Standing There - The Beatles
Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks
Dancing Queen - Abba
Seventeen - Jet (not sure about the lyrics on this one!)
17 - Avril Lavigne
It was a very good year - Sinatra
Let’s Go - The Cars

I got one you should keep off the list…

Paradise by the Dashboard Light - Meat Loaf

I don’t want my daughter to hear that, as epic as it was…

Haha! +1 on that.

At Seventeen, by Janis Ian

The first one that came into my mind - a really, really beautiful song with very strong lyrics, although with a pretty desillusioned mindset, telling about the hard and cold reality and therefore always made me really sad.
Maybe not a song I would add to a birthday playlist of a young girl, I guess ?

17 again by Eurythmics

Fair enough. But a song about an old geezer reflecting on what a wonderful life he had seducing women (including the village girls when he was 17) might not work either!

Just kidding, of course. I actually like It Was a Very Good Year quite a bit. And I agree, Janis Ian’s wonderful song might not be the best for a birthday celebration.

How about “She was only 16” by Dr Hook. Later in the lyric it goes “I’ve aged a year since then” meaning the storyteller is now 17.

Oh my, that’s ones off the list then. I wasn’t familiar with the song and read the lyrics as if sung by a woman.

Seventeen going under Sam Fender good friend of mine

I think Stray Cats - Sexy + 17 is a great one but probably not the best from her Dad

another one to NOT be on the list :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
Jennifer by Styx - a pretty good love song other than “a child in her mother’s eyes, but a woman every night”.

Nice song but very teenage boy angst?

A couple of Teenager ones:

Teenage Kicks - The Undertones
Teenager in Love - Marty Wilde ( I think his is the best version).

Sadly / oddly /weirdly (pick an adjective) both are in my repertoire . At the time of writing I’m 56,……but as I used to be a teenager, I think it’s ok to play and sing them :joy:

What about ‘17’ by Janice Ian . …

It’s a good one, but I am not sure how she will react to the lyrics.

Maybe not the best “Dad” song out there… bit it ROCKS!!! Brian Setzer can really play! One of my faves in the Rockabilly category!!!
