I am making a playlist for my daughter who turns 17 next month. Her musical tastes are quite wide ranging - from Jazz Manouche to current pop with all points in between. Got any songs I can add to my list?
I Saw Her Standing There - The Beatles
Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks
Dancing Queen - Abba
Seventeen - Jet (not sure about the lyrics on this one!)
17 - Avril Lavigne
It was a very good year - Sinatra
Let’s Go - The Cars
The first one that came into my mind - a really, really beautiful song with very strong lyrics, although with a pretty desillusioned mindset, telling about the hard and cold reality and therefore always made me really sad.
Maybe not a song I would add to a birthday playlist of a young girl, I guess ?
Fair enough. But a song about an old geezer reflecting on what a wonderful life he had seducing women (including the village girls when he was 17) might not work either!
Just kidding, of course. I actually like It Was a Very Good Year quite a bit. And I agree, Janis Ian’s wonderful song might not be the best for a birthday celebration.
Teenage Kicks - The Undertones
Teenager in Love - Marty Wilde ( I think his is the best version).
Sadly / oddly /weirdly (pick an adjective) both are in my repertoire . At the time of writing I’m 56,……but as I used to be a teenager, I think it’s ok to play and sing them
