Hi,
Let me present my instrumental version of the Sting’s hit Englishman In New York. I deliberately shortened it; since it’s an instrumental, I didn’t want it to be boring ;).
Guitar: HB SC Gotoh Deluxe (an LP clone);
Amp/cab modelling + all FX: Line6 POD Express.
I would also like to share an effect of my chasing a good strat tone from my old faithful ST-62. I finally got what I wanted, and as an illustration I recorded a short fragment of the motif Mark Knopfler often ends his live performance of Sultans Of Swing, that’s why I’m placing it here and not in the Originals subsection.
Backing chord progression: ST-62 pos. IV (N+M)
Solo: ST-62 pos. II (M+B).
Really groovy version of ‘An Englishman in New York’: like everything about the arrangement. The extract from ‘Sultans of Swing’ is very melodic, and may be too smooth, lacking the attack and definition of the original. Both enjoyable pieces.
@DeltaTyne@Eddie_09@beejay56@DavidP@roger_holland : Thank you all for listening and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated!
Brian - the extract I recorded often appears at the end of the song we know from the studio recording, and, for most part, is slow and “flowing”; at the end the band typically makes a transition back to the normal tempo, definition and vibe till the very end. The concert version can be twice as long as the official audio… By no means did I mean the one-minute fragment to be a complete song, just a sample of the sound I got while taming my new POD Express…
Two well played pieces Tomasz. I enjoyed both and you achieved a pretty good Dire Straits tone on that second one. I liked your arrangement of Englishman too. Well done.
