Strumming songs

Hello, for module 5 Soft-Loud song am I supposed to be strumming the whole time or only strum on when the notes show on 1? Also does this apply to all other strumming songs, should I be following the strum patterm under the strum tab and continuously strum then change chords when they show on the next line?

Hi Gianni,
Welcome to the forum. It would be very nice if you could briefly introduce yourself. Community Hub > Introduce yourself ...

In the module 5 you should explore strumming so you don’t have to follow the one suggested pattern with all down and ups. You can use this particular song and the other songs of course too for trying out different strumming patterns and experiment with the strumming dynamics. Have fun with strumming

BTW when you open a module or a lesson in the browser, you see a link to the discussion about the module or lesson. This may be a better place to ask lesson-related-questions and there are many questions answered already.

Cheers Withold

Hello Gianni!

I’m thinking that you are sharing a screenshot from Justin’s App. In the Songs section of the app, when you select “Strum”, there’s a play icon as well as a BPM slider. Hit the play button and if desired, slide the BPM slider to adjust the speed. Play along to the strum pattern for a while, it’ll help you to stay in the “groove”!
As Withold @witkatz mentions, experiment with the strumming as well! Finding the pattern that feels good to you & puts a smile on your face is really fun… after all, you’re playing & learning to feel good!
Good luck!

@Nhlstar4 Hello Gianni and welcome to the Community.
The Soft Loud song has been specially composed for the App to accompany the module 5 lesson called Exploring Strumming Dynamics, where Justin teaches how to strum with variations in volume.
The suggested strumming pattern to play along with the song is all 8ths D U D U D U D U. There is no no reason - if that is difficult for you - not to simply the strumming. You could play just a Down strum on 1 or a Down on 1 then 3. Or four Down strums on all the beats. Or something else that you are confident with.
The main focus is to increase and decrease your strumming volume in a way that matches the volume of the singing, which is itself synced with the lyrics saying “Soft” or “Loud” at various times.

I hope that helps.

I’m not sure if you noticed, this is an App specific question in the App section.
Your advice about commenting in lesson-specific questions would normally be good but Gianni isn’t coming from a lesson on the website.

I answered from my personal point of view, as I see the lessons and the forum as my primary source of knowledge and always consider the app to be a supplement to the lessons. Thank you for pointing that out, and I apologise if I caused any confusion.
