I’ve been learning this song as a good motivation to practice the back beat hit as a percussive strumming technique. It seems a good time as I have been doing that lesson in module 14.

Everything is more or less fine as I’m getting the percussive backbeat hit more and more often without the strings ringing out. So I’ve been practicing the verses and chorus. Tonight I was just leaning the final bit which is the middle section.

It goes G7 G7 D D G7 G7 D D but then at the end Justin says 2 bars of Am. However, it doesn’t look like he is playing Am on the video and it also doesn’t sound like an Am to me.

It also says Am in the TAB. It’s at 3:20 in the video. What it looks like in the video is 1st finger on 1st fret of 2nd string, 2nd finger on 2nd fret of 4th string and 3rd finger in the 3rd fret of there 6th string. So I’m confused.

Can someone help me?

Would love to help you, but didn’t tackle this one yet. :slightly_frowning_face:
Now that you pointed me to the fact that Justin has a lesson on it, I will definitely see how difficult it seems, because I love it.

Still remember that awesome cover (did you watch it?) from “Josh Turner” - he and his friends are always a treat!

OK - now I looked at the video…
So you are refering to when he sings “please” ? at 1:07 in the intro playing? There, it looks to me and sound like an Am, doesn’t it?

At 3:20, you’re right, his fingering looks a bit different, maybe like an Am7? but it when I play an Am at the same moment, it sounds pretty alike (to his guitar sound) to me.

@domi7 It may be an Am7. I wouldn’t know as it’s not a chord I’m familiar with. But it’s not what he says in the video or in the TAB.

I found it really difficult to hear the chord over his singing. Yes it’s when he sings Pleeeeease but he sings loud over that chord. I’m completely deaf in one ear which makes it very difficult for me to separate sounds so it’s very difficult for me to hear the chord clearly. I tried an Am and I tried the chord I think he is playing. To me they didn’t sound quite right.

Yes the song is a good one. Learnt some new chord changes and it’s good for practicing different types of strumming. Actually when I was a kid, me and my sister used to sing that song together. We always used to laugh when we sang the line “I’m so scared in case I fall off my chair” because as little kids we thought it was such a funny line. I’m learning it so I can sing it to her at Xmas when I see her.

Great idea! I also have a few fond memories doing funny things with my sister, like recording our own invented and silly news on that new tape recorder. And I also plan to soon record a song in hope she’ll record some singing with me.

An Am7 is the best chord to play here.

At 2:46 Justin clearly says A7 to the left of me. And if you look at his fingers he’s playing. X02020 which is an A7

Hey Stich, the OP is talking about the bridge section, not the verse.
You’re right, it is A7 in the verse
But Am7 in the bridge

Cheers, Shane
