Survey for Vintage Clubs - would you like new content or a revisit of previous sessions that have no video recording?

UPDATE in light of some comments posted in reply to this.
I think my meaning may have been unclear.
Revisiting earlier topics would mean repeating those sessions as topics for upcoming live clubs. It would not involve any additional workload on me, making time to record content that is then added to the archive pages. It would be new, fresh presentations of topics previously covered.
Hopefully, given that I am a little older and a little wiser and more experienced at doing these, they may even be (dare I say it) better than the original live broadcasts that were not recorded.
It would come at the expense of new content being delivered - when a club was revisiting a topic - but I would try to intersperse old with new.

Question:

POLL - Would you like upcoming Vintage Clubs to return to the content of some previous sessions for which no video recording was made?

  • Yes - [a] I missed the early sessions and would like repeats or [b] I attended the early sessions but would like a refresher
  • No - I like to have new content
  • Other - please comment

I occasionally receive questions from people who appreciate some of the older Vintage Club sessions in the archive but wish that they all had an accompanying video recording. The first Vintage Club with a recording is #13. Sadly, Club #14 does not (it was hijacked by aliens). Recordings pick up again from Club #15 on. I have made a full list below.

All Vintage Club sessions up to and including March 2025.

Clubs to #12 do not have a recording available.

Recordings available for the following clubs (apart from #14)

I voted other because I reckon all those topics 1-12 are the building blocks and so would come around again in the natural cycle of things.
So as the clubs continue, I think it would be an unnecessary imposition on Richard to ask him to redo all those sessions on top of the forthcoming club dates.

I voted repeat but many of the early sessions could be combined into one or two new sessions? Or perhaps start with Triads 1 or Fingerstyle 1?

Hello, :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve voted for “other”.
Please let me explain …
But first of all a huge thank you for asking us and letting us participate :sunflower:

For me a mixture of old and new content would be great.
All live clubs had such a huge variety of different, exciting, motivating and helpful content. So I’d surely love to revisit some of the old topics. For some of them I may be a bit better prepared now with my continued practice during last year (live classes started when I was working on Grade 1, currently I’m in Grade 3).

On the other hand some new content would be nice to keep us motivated and curious.
All teachers always come up with such interesting topics, so I completely trust you with that.

Old or new content … each live class is very much appreciated and I’d surely look forward to all of them.

Thanks again for caring so much!

Cheers,
Gunhild :lady_beetle:

I attended some of the early classes but still voted for them to be re-done with a recording.

I was only very early into my journey so I found them interesting but I wasn’t ready to apply them and now I’ve forgotten a lot of the content. It would be good to have a complete library for people like myself or for people who have joined since / will join in the future

I think that visuals can be a key teaching component.
So I voted that they would benefit from new videos—I find that I’m looking at many aspect not in the syllabus: how is the guitar held, hand position, strumming motion, how fingers are placed, body language, etc. Plus always great to put a face with something, seems more engaging.

Thanks Richard

my two bits,
Bruce

I voted “Other” for reasons that echo those above. The recordings are a great resource for those who missed the original club, as well as those who are new to Justin Guitar since the club. Also, I sometimes go back and re-watch recordings, and selfishly would value having access to the material Richard presented before recording began.

I voted “No - I like to have New Content”. Let me explain. The old lessons have no recording but do come with Richard’s fantastically written Resource docs, so you should be able to get the knowledge for it, and practice it. Remember we are getting these lessons for free, so this is additional burden on Richard to create recordings of the older lessons which most are over a year old. Doing so then we’ll be going backwards, to the detriment of delaying new lessons.

Dear Richard,
I may have mentioned it before, but you, sir, are a treasured resource.

I enthusiastically voted “Yes!” Recording those sessions would be very helpful. I am such a visual learner that I feel lost trying to apply a kinesthetic and audio skill through material that is purely read. I learn something new every time I rewatch a video.

BUT - I think it should be a side project, and should come a little at a time, not a priority at the expense of new material.

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the decision making process. Just remember, this time WE are the grocery store - you don’t have to buy everything we are selling!

If I may be so bold, pick subjects to re-record that you feel would expand on concepts that the main site content introduce but you feel would benefit from a deeper dive or a more fundamental breakdown, and add material you enjoy teaching.

Just my £20. (I was going to say 2 cents, but with inflation and all… shrug)

Like others, I very much appreaciate you asking your audience!
Voted “redo old” for the reasons you named yourself.

Does this mean, redo old lessons, and occasionnally a new one?*** Like, every 3rd, or 4th (or however) time?
Ok, I’m too curious here and I would be happy with almost anything you come up with anyway

*** or put additional new content in those “classic” lessons

I double dog dare you to say it, and I then would underline it!
it’ll be a dark day when you are no longer learning…

Thank you!

Hi Richard. My vote would be a halfway house. Go for new content but include some revision if the new content overlaps a little with technique previously covered in older lessons.

I’m in the “some redos and some new material” camp as well, and voted “other.”

Hi Richard

I never assumed that you had asked if the old past events should be redone. Although from reading comments I think some might have taken that as an option.

What has gone before has gone.

As others have put forward some of the concepts that were covered are either available elsewhere on this site or will be covered as part of the new sessions that you carefully plan and present or other tutors.

After all the basics are the basics and we all need to understand and successfully do the basics to move onto the next stage of the journey.

If I were to be critical of the whole process it’s how the grades operate but not be hampered by them. If you fancy doing something outside you’re comfort zone go for it and I’ve learnt a lot from your sessions by doing that.

Vintage Club #23 will be a revisit to fingerstyle basics. A return to some the general content of #7 but with different chords, progressions and exercises newly created for this new presentation.
