"Take It Easy" by The Eagles, Take 2

This is video of the lead guitar parts with my first video of me singing and playing rhythm guitar as backing. Note that this version is in the key of C, not G. Forgive me for the poor audio quality of the backing track; I had to play it through my amp and the treble got washed out for some reason. Not sure if there is a software solution that could fix that problem.

This is video from a beginner and it shows. Feedback that will help me improve will be greatly appreciated!

Those very familiar with The Eagles original album version will note that I took some liberties. 1.) The arpeggios I played over the vocals were done by a separate electric guitar from the lead in the original recording. I combined them so I wouldn’t be sitting there looking bored for most of the video. I also used a more boring version of the arpeggios for reasons I will explain below. 2.) I had to drop an octave for the last 2 bars of the lead solo in the bridge section because I just could not handle the string bends on the 19th fret with my fat fingers  3.) I added some lead portions of my own to the end of the song.

What I learned:

It’s a lot easier to stick with a rhythm strumming than it is picking strings. I recorded myself playing along with the original and playing lead to my own recording and in both cases found that even though I thought I was hitting notes at the needed beat while playing with the music, when I played back the recording I was consistently behind time. Very frustrating! I had to get to the point where I was anticipating the next beat in order to hit notes at the right time. I purposely played the arpeggios so that I plucked 4 notes/bar at most points in the song. I wanted to be sure I got the transition from the last quarter note in one chord to the first quarter note in the next chord timed just right. You will notice that I failed a lot of the time!

What I’m wondering

1.) From the video my lead picking seems a bit violent. Not sure what to make of that. Is that something that I should try to fix?

2.) Does this video allow too much of the sound from the unamplified guitar playing come through?

Nice job, your timing and string picking was really seemed right one. Also the licks at the end were cool. I am not 100% familiar with the exact riffs but it seemed to flow really good and I enjoyed it. Sounded great. :call_me_hand:t2:

Tip for the future recordings. Try and get your camera up level with your chest. That will give the viewer a much better view of what you are doing on the fret board and also you wont have to hold you head down to look at the camera. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Edit, turn all the sound up. So yea, that amp sound some and that backing track sound.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll work on both of those suggestions!

I’m a beginner too so I’m not one to give advice but I did enjoy watching and listening. Thanks for posting the video.

Oh yeah, and lovely guitar too !!! You’re getting a nice tone from that guitar on the solos.
