The Boys of Barr na Sraide

That’s what music is all about in my book Tod. There’s not many means of being able to tap into the heart strings as with music.

I’ll admit to having a few sobs while trying to record this piece. You’ll hear a sniffle at the beginning :joy:

That’s the beauty of the Irish pub music tradition. I firmly believe the rise in mental health problems in Ireland is directly proportional to decline of the pub.

You got your therapy free with every pint

I’ve heard it done on quiet a few occasions by different people, mostly the older generation. It was more popular in the '50s/'60s.

Having worked for three months on an inpatient Alcohol and Chemical Dependancy unit in Dublin led me to different conclusions

Perhaps I was a little flippant. However there is something to be said for the pub providing a gathering point for small rural communities. My local opens at 9pm and closes at 11pm. For some, especially the elderly, it’s their only chance to tell a story or hear a song.

I agree. Nothing like a good bartender for a shoulder to cry on and to get sage advice from. And yes, the pints help too.

Brilliant stuff as always Dom. Am heading back to Ireland next week for a couple of weeks and listening to this makes me want to go back sooner. Hope all is well with you!
