The Butterfly - DADGAD

Hello there, John from beautiful Bruges in Belgium here. I just joined this community today. By way of introduction a video from 2015, when I lost the tip of my index finger in an accident at work. I tuned the guitar to DADGAD, and 2 weeks later I had this.
The Butterfly is a slip jig, a dance tune from Ireland.

Welcome to the Community, John. That was a lovely tune.

I suggest you pop over to #community-hub:introduce-yourself and share a little personal background, guitar history, and aspirations in following Justin and joining the Community.

Welcome to the community!

Apparently, the thing to do is to make a thimble using the plastic from an old washing-up liquid bottle.

Cheers,

Keith

Yep as used by Tony Iommi when he lost fingertips in an industrial accident, can’t remember what he used though!
Playing was really good especially bearing in mind that I guess that your finger would still be giving you hell!

Apparently, it was plastic from an old Fairy Liquid bottle.

From Wikipedia:

he fitted homemade thimbles to his injured fingers to extend and protect them; the thimbles were made from an old Fairy Liquid bottle – “melted it down, got a hot soldering iron and shaped it like a finger” – and cut sections from a leather jacket to cover his new homemade prosthetic

Cheers,

Keith

I was lucky to have the best specialist around, he fixed the finger, it’s 8 mm shorter now but I can use it again. But boy the first time I touched a string after the healing process, that was agony! At first I took up the bass guitar, thicker strings less pain :sunglasses:

Hello and welcome to the community.

Lovely bit of playing John. Looks like it gave your little finger a good workout.
