Well, I finally did it, the garage band trio my husband, a friend and I formed a year ago, played at our favorite local bar, and it wasn’t a total disaster. We have actually played 2 nights, last Thursday, which had a bunch of our friends in the audience as well as others (likely locals we just didn’t know) and some of them even sang along, and then we played again Saturday night.
For some reason I made more mistakes Saturday than on Thursday but just kept strumming like nothing happened and no one threw rotten fruit at us. We’re playing one more time, tomorrow night, and then we drag Russell’s drums and the rest of the equipment back to his garage so we can start learning more songs.
I’m posting 2 of the better videos from the 2nd night. That’s my husband Carl on bass; I’m that small person in the distance. Russell, who can barely be seen is on drums. We need to figure out a better placement for Carl’s phone.
We’ve got a LOT of room for improvement, but we did have fun!
Rebecca, that was great. Singing and playing live must be scary. I haven’t done that yet. You were really together and you could easily pick out the guitar bass drums and vocals in the mix, even on a phone recording which is great.
I love that black Strat and the tone was great. And Carl looks cool with that sunburst precision bass.
Well done Rebecca, Carl and friendly drummer, I thought you all did very well, and as said before the mix levels were pretty good. I liked Carl trying to go for anonymity behind the shades.
I have still to get courage up for a local open Mic/Blues session which might happen soon, but it will be guitar only, I can’t imagine trying to sing as well, just too much.
That’s awesome guys. The ukelele group I’m in does a few live gigs each year, mostly at farm markets locally and holiday events. Country Roads and Bad Moon Rising are real crowd pleasers. Taffy Nivert and Bill Danoff originated Country Roads and perfected it with John Denver. You made them all proud, as well as John Fogerty in singing and playing Bad Moon Rising. Great job on playing and singing to all!
