The Great Pretender - Chord Melody

Hi Guitar Friends! :musical_notes: Here I am again trying to make my guitar sing with me :innocent::grin:
I thought that more than real arrangements my attempts should be considered like “chord/melody exercises”…more about the learning journey in my LL for those of you interested in chord melodies.

The zoom on my fretting hand, in the acoustic guitar version, is meant to enlighten how much work I still need to do on it - any observation is very well welcome and appreciated; a few things I’m already aware of.

And my shortened lyrics below, for those like me who never miss a chance for some singing :innocent::face_with_hand_over_mouth::musical_notes::microphone::blush:

Oh-oh, yes, I’m the great pretender
Pretending that I’m doing well
My need is such, I pretend too much
I’m lonely, but no one can tell

Oh-oh, yes, I’m the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I played the game but to my real shame
You’ve left me to grieve all alone

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal

Oh-oh, yes, I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around

Beautifully played: I think I heard Freddie singing along! Pretty close to a perfect rendition.

Thanks for listening and your kind feedback @Prof_Thunder @beejay56 @pkboo3 :smiling_face::smiling_face:

I’m afraid I’ll never be able to play objectively perfectly, but it’s not something that distress me too much really as long as I keep on aiming to do my best to improve
If you heard the singing there’s already a lot for me to be really proud of!

Again a very nice transcription that you’ve done, Silvia - and also played it very nicely!
I have much more than Freddie Mercury’s the original version (The Platters) in my head, my mother had a 50s love songs LP when I was a kid and I loved most of the songs, like this one too.

Lovely playing Silvia! Hope to hear the final version with vocals over the top soon!

Now…it would be more objective if you heard the neighbours’ dogs barking downstairs right at the end of the first clip

That is a big compliment! Thanks Deborah, I much appreciate it!

I actually relied on that for working it out, because it’s Rhythmically clearer, I think, also the singing it’s always very much on the beat, while Freddie Mercury rendition (which is the one I’ve always known better)…well he sometimes “sings around” the beat in such a beautifully musical way! The original version by The Platters was actually easier for me to decode…and oh so so beautiful too! Thanks Domi, glad I brought you back to a fond memory

Sorry Ashu, these “arrangements” are actually more like exercises for me…I’m not ready/able for final refined versions…who knows…in a couple of years maybe  Thank you for listening and your kind feedback, I much appreciate it!

Another nice song Silvia. Were you channeling your inner Freddie theatrical stage presence at the end of the recording? :joy:

Do I have one? Thanks John!

@Guitarman63 thanks John for listening and your kind words of appreciation of my work

It’s a Christmas present from my husband, I wear them everyday except in the weekend when we go out (as I have a large collection of earrings )

That was beautiful, Silvia!
I thought it was very well played, it doesn’t sound to me like you still have to work on it. Your notes are so clean too :star_struck:
And an enjoyable performance, loved the singing at the end
Also, I was admiring your earrings too :musical_notes: :musical_note: :sparkles:

Thanks Jasmine for your kind words

I feel what I really have to work on is my fretting hand technique so that I reduce the risk of mistakes and hicups and I feel more comfortable at playing.

:face_with_hand_over_mouth: just for the fun of it and because I wanted to keep it simple on the guitar but wasn’t really satisfied with the ending and wanted so much that higher octave! :joy:

Hi Silvia,
Fortunately, you can see and know where you would like to see what needs to be improved for a really good performance , …

I see you working very hard to get the right positions  and get it on time and with this one the ‘flow’ is already a lot better than the last song, and since you yourself indicate that these are all “exercises” for a bigger picture later, it is a nice one… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

But the words “not able” is of course not true … what you show and let us hear, you can certainly play this flawlessly on all fronts , I understand that that is not the goal now and is not worth the time, but if you really wanted to and give it a few months … then you would … you’re already good enough for it ,but I totally get you …

I’m glad you’re sharing these songs and I hope to follow you up with some of you in the coming year (s) :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: . :crossed_fingers:

Greetings :sunflower:
