Just bought a 3/4 Martin for the 52th Birthday (Oct 20th)…ok old. Never picked up or strummed a guitar before…but I’ve see it done before. So I had that going for me.
Choose Justin Guitar and learned A, D, E chords. Ok playing the chords without looking and then started playing beginner songs. These songs are from the legends with Oh My My strumming patterns. So let’s try a strumming lesson…I laughed so hard…my rhythm is that from the movie “The Jerk” you know when he was in Mississippi.
Thought of the day. “Yeah I play” I’m so far from this phrase but having a great time.

Your sense of humour, and ability to laugh at yourself, will serve you well here.
Welcome from one newbie to another.
This is the place to be, if the course has allowed an inept old duffer like me make progress then you will have no worries.
You got the guitar, you’re studying it, and playing, and really, that’s all there is to it. Just play, baby, play! Justin’s stuff is awesome. So many brilliant musicians who offer so much guidance. Belated Happy Birthday! At 52, you are a very young lady! In 2 to 5 years, you could be one rocking guitarist – seriously. Just time on task! Do it!
Hi Erica, welcome to the community forum. The more you play, the better your strumming will be. Look at some of Justin’s early Nitsuj practice videos and you’ll see that even when you know what you are doing, it’s not easy to get your hands and fingers to cooperate.
Justin Guitar videos are great. Honestly the first humour of strumming patterns lessons has paid off, as after a couple days I’m not doing too bad at the Boom Chicka Strumming.
