Well sorta
This is the outtro section of The Magic Roundabout by IQ from their album “The Wake”. The progression is based loosely on the theme from the TV series The Magic Roundabout which aired in the UK when I was a kid.
Very impressive! Naturally, I paid most attention to the guitar line, and I liked your soloing very much. I wish I were so disciplined in my phrasing… Great job, congrats!
OK Phil that was some clever clickbait for me. I was expecting Dougal, Florence, Brian and Ermintrude ala
But that was a jolly little jaunt down a different memory lane. Boy done good across all the tracks my friend and your drumming is way better than mine would ever be !
Only slightly disappointed though, as that was awesome as ever Phil. Also, got to agree with Toby, you’re drumming is pretty darn good - I see you got both feet going now!
What a mean trick to play, Phil.
Drawn in and landing with a spring in my step… Boing! Only to find no Zebedee.
I had to go and satisfy the need with a YT video instead. Fantastic recording, btw — just as I’d expect from you.
Really nice! I’m not familiar with the show, but really liked this. The guitar sounds great as always, but I’m also impressed with the drum sounds you’re getting out of that “kit”.
@Coda Thanks Tomasz, but I’d be very happy with your phrasing, “disciplined” or not!
Agreed Adrian
Yeah just about! Some of the fills didn’t sound quite right timing wise though. I gave up trying to get the perfect take - it is what it is at the moment
@TheMadman_tobyjenner@Willsie cheers guys! … but IQ’s Magic Roundabout does contain elements of the “real” one. For example the bass starting at 0:15 in my vid is definitely inspired by TMR!
@Boris1565@dfrazz Thank you folks! The drum pad is not ideal, it feels like you’re hitting a piece of rubber. Because you are! I’d love a real kit, but there’s absolutely no way I could have one for obvious reasons.
I play an ATV mesh kit, and I’m really happy with it. The mesh heads absolutely feel like you’re playing an acoustic kit. It might be a little louder than your pads, but its quiet enough to play while the wife is at home
I also hear good things about thomann’s house brand (Alesis, I think) and those are pretty economical.
If you really get the itch to play drums, these are good options for a bedroom studio.
@dfrazz Thanks for the tip! With your kit, does the hi-hat allow you to get sounds in between fully open and fully closed? That’s something I’m really missing on my setup.
Yeah, it does. The hi-hats are hard rubber, but they’re on a real high-hat stand with a pedal. They open/close just like a “real” one. You can also choke the cymbals, which is super cool. These were actually some of the reasons I chose this kit.
If you’re playing with headphones and/or recording via audio out, those sounds are automatic. I record to midi, and it took a lot of fussing around with the midi map to get it to capture the sounds, but ATV sent me info on the midi maps that helped a lot.
